I was thinking about optical illusions like this, and something occurred to me:

--Optical illusions like this use color to induce a false sense of motion.

--There is another kind of optical illusion which uses motion to produce a false sense of color. (For example, spinning a black and white wheel with certain striped patterns creates an illusion of color.)

It would seem that color and motion are interrelated in some way. Just some musings from my old psych major studies.
