website hosting questions.
anyone have recommendations for website hosting? I am finally going to make My Own Website (I'm a designer, do some webs for others but don't have my own and it's getting Embarrassing).

I called my internet provider just now and find out they only do 'business' accounts that cost $70 per month (Canada). Wow, that's waaaaay too much. I've heard paying 40 or 50 a year is average.

I don't need anything super dooper in bells and whistles, just basic to show some of my work and hopefully can register a domain name at the same place.

thanks in advance.

J.

4. I have a client that uses GoDaddy....
but as I said, if someone on DU does this kind of thing or gets a commission, whatever, I'd rather do that.

9. I'd recommend Interland
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 05:32 PM by Redstone
because I use them to host several of my customers' websites. They have all kind of plans.

Hurricane Electric (www.he.net) isn't too bad, either.

Stay away from 1 & 1, from what I hear. Also, I'd rather spend $10 a month with somebody like Interland for a basic site than use any of the free ones (no insult entended to the people who recommended the free hosting places).
