A Cure song in a Hewlett-Packard commercial? I'm crushed.
Just saw it while watching the ballgame on Fox.

I suppose I should have been throughly jaded after The Clash sold out, but every time one my adolescent music idols fall to their knees to "The Man's" advertising juggernaut my inner child pitches a fit.

Sigh...

As a fellow Cure fan, I'm curious.

I edited my first post because I saw the post by "94114_San_Francisco."

Sorry... I'm trying to cook dinner, watch the ballgame and blog at the same time. I've had a few glasses of wine, as well.

Please excuse my confusion...

2. Which one?
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 09:02 PM by eileen_d
Was it "Just Like Heaven" -- but how the F**K that would apply to Hewlett Packard, no one could adequately make that case

4. Uh, actually they submitted a song for Pizza Hut.
It wasn't used. Go to their website and listen to it; then listen to the "remake". Classics!

5. I haven't seen it yet.
Huge Cure fan here. I was just listening to Head on the Door earlier in my, gasp, minivan. Ah well, it's hard to be cool when you have two toddlers.

8. Remember Chevrolet's use of "Happy When It Rains" by
Jesus and Mary Chain?

Now, that was just bizarre. The (relatively) few people who know the song would probably just be offended and LESS likely to buy Chevy's because of it. The rest of the population would probably BE offended if they knew the name of the band.

HAPPY WHEN IT RAINS

Step back and watch the sweet thing
Breaking everything she sees
She can take my darkest feeling
Tear it up till I'm on my knees
Plug into her electric cool
Where things bend and break
And shake to the rule
Talking fast couldn't tell me something
I would shed my skin for you
Talking fast on the edge of nothing
I would break my back for you
Don't know why, don't know why
Things vaporise and rise to the sky
And we tried so hard
And we looked so good
And we lived our lives in black
But something about you felt like pain
You were my sunny day rain
you were the clouds in the sky
You were the darkest sky
But your lips spoke gold and honey
That's why I'm happy when it rains
I'm happy when it pours
Looking at me enjoying something
That feels like feels like pain
To my brain
And if I tell you something
You take me back to nothing
I'm on the edge of something
You take me back
And I'm happy when it rains

Ahh memories.....

11. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!
Iggy Pop
Cure
B-52s
Ramones
Clash
Pretenders

And the one that really bugs me: the Femmes' "Blister in the Sun" at sporting events. :wtf:

Brain--hurting--can't--go--on . . .

13. Another Pretenders irony
Isn't it strange that the theme song for Rush Lowbrow is "My City Was Gone" by the Pretenders?

Especially ironic considering Chrissie Hynde is one of the farthest left-leaning people on the planet?

14. If I may offer a quote...
From Maynard James Keenan:

"All you know about me is what I've sold you, dumbfuck. I sold out long before you ever even heard my name. I sold my soul to make a record, dipshit. Then.... You..... Bought.... One...."

Welcome to the real world, kids.
