I'm thinking about going over to the dark side.
No, not FreeRepublic or the GOP, but looking at a job for pharmaceutical sales rep. I'm a nurse and the hours and job flexibility might work out better for me.

Any thoughts? Any Pharm reps here?

1. It's hard work
my cousin did it for a year. You have a leg up because you have a medical background. She said it was hell for her because she had to be conversational with doctors. You're used of that being a nurse-you speak the language! Good Luck! :-)

2. I am on the dark side
It is not that bad. No more mandatory overtime, No holidays, No weeks ends. No combative patients.

3. Welcome to the world of the global conglomerate...
Watch your e-mail and avoid after work functions with co-workers unless your boss is there and you're looking for a promotion and need some face time.

Be carefull, you'd be surprized who is and isn't your friend. Other than that it's fine. Good Luck!

4. Thanks everyone. I appreciate every comment.
I need good money and a stable income. I don't need the problems of dealing with critically ill, etc, that being a staff nurse would bring me. I received very positive encouragement from my son's psychiatrist today. She knows I understand alot about pedi meds.

5. my dad started out doing that.
He's been pushing me to do it too, since I've been having such a hard time finding work since college.

It is TOUGH work. All day long, travelling from one GP or specialized practice to another. You have to wait in the same lines as everyone else (I mean, it's not like they're going to make sick people wait just to hear another sales pitch). I'd only do it, if being in a car/waiting rooms for 8-12 hours a day appealed to me.

10. If you seriously want to go to the dark side...consider working for
an insurance company's medical management/utilization review department. They hire nurses to staff phones where docs call in and beg the insurance company to approve various procedures that the insurance company has determined require prior authorization.

11. Oh, that isn't the dark side, that's a black hole!
I don't think I could sleep at night. Besides, That would require me to move, whereas I can do the pharm job from here.
