Fuck It All To Hell
What a goddamn travesty.

How stupid is our electorate? How pathetic is the goddamn media? What the fuck do we have to do in order to help common sense prevail?

God, I am so disgusted.

:wtf:

3. If it were close, I agree...
...but it isn't close.

Davis could not defend his record. He was caught in a spell of unpopularity and lost a vote of confidence.

That lack of confidence poisoned Bustamante.

9. Davis never did anything wrong-
Now we shall see that Ahhnold won't do anything right--he's already said he's going to attack the laborer and overtime-- this party has just begun.

14. it doesn't matter....
...there was a perception that he was responsible for all of Cali's ills. He couldn't defend against that, nor against his car tax hike, and some other stuff that probably every Governor has done at some time or another, but caught in the center of a lot of attention, and a lot of negative voter sentiment, put him in an unenviable spot.

If he never did anything wrong, he did a terrible job of communicating that to the electorate. They slimed him bigtime - what are you going to do?

10. Here's Some Constructive Input
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 01:16 AM by DoveTurnedHawk
Write Clark and his team, and tell them to start utilizing their grassroots resources. Not one volunteer has received any guidance or even one single e-mail from the official campaign.

Oh, and tell him to attend the NAACP forum, too, please. Thanks.

DTH

On Edit: I guess some volunteers have received an e-mail or two, but IMO they don't seem like particularly constructive e-mails.

11. I'm stunned too, DTH. I thought fellow CA voters had some sense...
Well, I was wrong.

I guess to successfully run for office, you don't need any experience, you don't need a campaign per se, you don't have to have any unscripted debates, you don't need any ideas, you don't need any vision, you don't need to think on your feet.

What you do need is plenty of money, a slick image, a few catch-phrases, and some more money.

Oh yeah, it doesn't hurt to be Republican, either.

Fuck it all to hell is right.

12. Californians elected a bloody comic book character..
..and one with a history of sexually harassing women. It doesn't matter whether one is able to lead: all one has to do is be famous and people think you can lead. Californians are going to regret this for a long, long time.

18. Amen
I used to have a good instinctual feel for how elections would turn out. The last couple years, this 'feel' has failed terribly... in the wrong direction.

What is the difference? My guess is the media. Now that Bush is in charge, the GOP/corporate media propaganda machine has kicked into high gear. And, horror of all horrors, it seems to be working. Enough people buy into this bullshit.

This country is going permanently in the crapper unless we do something about this real quick.

they realized a few years ago that democracy doesn't work (or at least that they could make it not work).

We are now being slapped upside the head with their reality.

22. If it's any consolation at all
Please remember that CA was but a single battle, so don't give up hope. Just last November, we Democrats were able to buck the national trend and convince the people of Illinois to entrust us with all 3 branches of the state governement for the 1st time in over 30 years. In addition, only 1 Repuke was elected to a constitutional office--- the VERY moderate Ms. Barr-Topinka.

All is not lost, so kick your feet up, have a drink, lick your wounds and fight on again starting tomorrow. It CAN be done! :)

23. Do you really think so, Padraig?
I must confess, I wonder if there will ever be another fair election in this country, or if we just aren't aware yet that democracy has been sold down the river. There was a bloodless coup in 2000 - and it changes everything.

I confess I was really cranky this morning at the bipartisan coffee klatch, and pissed off a bunch of men by saying that Arnie got a free pass on abusing women because he's a Republican. They said, "Well, Clinton...blah blah blah." I said, "So - that makes it okay? Women are just toys here for your general amusement - you don't need to concern yourself with what happens? Why aren't women's issues real for you? And you wonder why I get pissed off? You call me a feminazi sometimes - this is why. Because of apathetic male apologists like yourselves."

maxanne had a rant for herself. :nuke:

Then on the way home I spent waaaaay too much money on a pair of shoes. I don't drink - so a cup of coffee and some new shoes were my drug today.
