Look at this beautiful pond my hubby built.
I'm trying to convince him to go into the pond business - to build them just on the weekends as a side thing. Couldn't you see him offering this design (without the landscaping) for a flat price?

1. Very nice!
Looks a lot like ours in shape and size. We've had many years of enjoyment from ours.

Yeah, he can offer this for a flat price and offer decking, bench seating, lattice sides, etc for extra.

2. Do you keep koi?
We started out with two koi and two poolfish. We now have no koi and two million poolfish :P

3. We try for koi - mixed results
:eyes: But we also find that standard goldfish grow to pretty astounding size in a pond.

My father-in-law is a genius with koi - his are WHALES!

7. koi = expensive raccoon food
If we built one of those in our backyard, the raccoons would be overjoyed. A friend of mine had a pool much like that in a part of town where raccoon are not so bad but came home one day to find a great blue heron standing in the pool scooping up the goldfish. Kind of like an all-you-can-eat buffet.

8. got a solution for that one
we have all kinds of critters in the area that have tried to dine from the pond. Twice they were successful.

The key is to have plenty of plants on the surface so that the fish can hide. Since we did that we haven't lost a single fish.

14. Definite racoon buffet
We built a pond behind our condo in Tampa several years ago. Just dug a hole and put in one of those hard plastic liner things. Got a filter with a little fountain, some rocks for the edge from the rock place and some plants. Got cheap goldfish from Petsmart that started out small but grew to pretty good size with really nice tails. Came out one morning to see dead fish all over the yard. Damned racoons!!

9. I've actually eaten that ugly critter.
Didn't know how hideous they are.
Called "poor man's lobster".

10. That's gorgeous
I really admire people who can design and build things. My Dad enjoys projects like this and has said he wishes he had started earlier and made kind of a career out of it.

12. Ooooo, if anyone wants a whole PILE of pond gear, I just posted mine for
sale up on Craigslist.org (Los Angeles)

I have 3 pumps, some filters, liners, a UV filter (needs a new bulb, but only 8 months old), rocks, waterfall rocks, hoses, PVC, transformers, etc. I'm selling the whole kit and kaboodle for $200 to some VERY lucky person here in the los angeles area.

The liner fit a 10' X 5' x 2.5' deep rectangle pond.

I've taken the pond out in preparation for selling the house.
