What was up w/ U2 at the Grammys?
Not that this will change my life or cure the common cold, but what did Larry Mullen mean when he said that not only did they almost not play that night, they almost didn't play the rest of the year?
I am just curious.

1. Wasn't he in Southeast Asia when the tsunami hit?
That might have something to do with it.

4. Don't think so
U2 had the number one concert tour of 2001 in terms of ticket sales and gross revenues (the records were held until 2004), the Grammy winning record and song of 2001, will most likely end up with the Grammy winning record in 2006 (Atomic bomb wasn't eligible in 2005) and currently have the number one record worldwide.

8. Reality shows are not popular overseas
A majority of U2's support comes from overseas, not in America.

If you look at worldwide sales, U2 is by far the leader. I believe they've sold more records than the Beatles. They've sold more concert tickets than any other artists.

But then, we're talking about your personal opinion, and you're entitled to it. I just happen to be a big fan of them.

3. Family illness
One of the their relatives was having going through a serious medical illness.

They're not saying who it was, or what the illness was.

6. Ok..thanks
I just read that (about the family illness) on a fan site, but wasn't sure if that was what he was talking about. I know they also had some major problems with how they sold tickets to their fans.

7. They are not responsible for the ticket snafu
They don't run the fan site responsible, nor are they associated with it in any business sense.

But they did apologize for it and will play the a few of the towns a second time at the end of the tour to make up for it.

The ticket snafu didn't affect any of the U.S. shows, just the European segment of the tour.
