Question for NYPD Blue fans
I tuned in last night for the first time in a while, and saw that Scipowitz was not a detective anymore; it looked like he'd gotten busted back down to street cop because he was wearing the blues. Can someone fill me in on what happened?

3. Answer
He took test for Sargent and passed, thus was promoted. Don't know if this is good or bad.

5. He was promoted, and it was long overdue.
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 03:11 PM by madison2000
However, since the Boss Man was shot last night, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sargeant Sipowicz being put in charge of the squad.

Edit: This was the last week for Gordon Clapp character(Metavoy)- great job.

7. Going from Detective to Police Sergeant is a promotion?
Scipowitz was a grade one detective. The next step up is Lieutenant, I thought. Going back into uniform is a demotion. I think.

10. I don't know much about the grades, embarassed to say
But this season he studied for the Sargeants exam and passed it- then he went back to being in uniform either last week or this week. In the story line he's been promoted.

11. I'm a little confused about that, too
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 03:44 PM by Rob H.
I missed the second half of the episode where they showed his promotion ceremony. He now has charge of the uniformed officers who respond at crime scenes, so it could be a promotion since he's now in command of the officers and responsible for making sure the scene is secure until the detectives show up.

I get the impression that he doesn't care for being away from where the action is, either.

21. No, I checked out the web site
cause it did not seem to make sense to me either. In the episode guide they call it a promotion.

6. His former boss got shot in last night's episode, too
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 03:15 PM by Rob H.
I wonder if this is setting the series finale up to be Sipowicz taking charge of the detective squad he used to be part of (next week's episode with a temporary lieutenant notwithstanding).

Edit: D'oh! I was writing my message while madison2000's was being written, I swear! :P

12. Well, I'd rather see him in charge at the end
They've killed off quite a few cops on this show so it would be nice if they don't kill him off too!

19. Same here
When Andy returned briefly to detective duties after the lieutenant got shot, one of the final scenes showed Andy in the squadroom with the younger detectives all around him. It gave the sense that they all look up to him. I really hope they do put him in charge of the squad--he and Gordon Clapp (Medavoy) were the only two remaining original cast members, and now he's the last one.

14. We really need a policeman
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 03:48 PM by KT2000
to clarify but from the last three shows it goes like this:
Sipowicz (herein referred to as S) takes and passes the test for Sargeant. It was treated as a promotion, the squad lined up and saluted him.
Then S is put on the desk in a supervisory position - he goes out on calls and supervises the work of the street cops.

I know a policeman who says that TV's portrayal of detectives being higher that street cops is not correct. He said that the detectives are really considered lower rank than street cops. Of course, the person I know is a street cop. So ????

I am just glad they did not kill off Medavoy for the show's ending.

20. Yes, he is and he was a wonderful kid when I knew him.
All the kids just thought he was the greatest because he was so humble and kind. He also has a wonderful twin sister who was just as nice.

Sigh. I miss those days.
