I Mowed today for the first time this year
74 and sunny in South MS. The Robins are lazily scowering the fresh mown lawn looking for chow. I fertilized and mulched the Crape Myrtles and Camellias while being serenaded by Mocking Birds drunk on Holly Berries. We'll have blooming Japanese Magnolias any day now and the Azaleas are giving every indication that this will be a spectacular year for them. Springtime is awesome in our little acre of solitude.

Spring, the season I love the best, will be here soon. However for today - I'm enjoying hearing about "what's growin in your yard" and of course other DUer's yards too.

4. Beat you! I mowed yesterday....Daffodils are budded....
along with the Carolina Jessamine and Japanese Magnolias. Winter honeysuckle and camellias are on their last buds and the first stalk of asparagus appeared yesterday.

It has all the makings of a fabulous spring!

6. Hello Rowdy
I'm on death's bed with spring fever. I'm experimenting a little bit with Tulips. I forced a whole bunch of bulbs in a big pot later than what is recommended. They've broken the surface and hopefully we'll have a big red show real soon. Our Camellias bloom in October/November/December. I pruned them back just a little this year for shapings sake. Have a great year. French Quarter Festival 8-10 April.

5. I mow mine year round
The grass grows year round her in Bakersfield, CA.

My two almond trees are blooming, the ivy on the fence has new growth and my daisy bushes are in full color.

7. I don't know about that
year round mowing stuff. I like a little break. We normally don't mow from October through Now. Our Ivy is starting to prek up real good. I have ground ivy around a few trees and try to keep it corralled.

8. I look forward to mowing the lawn
It gets me outside and I get to terrorize the neighborhood cats who hide out in the bushes. It gives me time to just let my mind wander, although I almost lost a few toes once from not paying attention.

Keeping the ivy from taking over the entire backyard is the toughest job. I made it easier by putting down flexible plastic tubing around the trees. Then I just take a weed wacker to it around the tubing. If I tear up the tubing, I just replace the section torn up. I do need to figure out how to keep it from growing so thick though. It's about 10 inches deep now.

Keeping control over the ivy on the fence is easier. If it gets too long, I tie it up to the fence in bare spots to fill it in. In the last 3 years, the ivy has gone from a 6 foot section of fence to an 18 foot section. Grows like a weed here.
