The cost of having the basic-basic cable is less than the "discount" offered on internet service for cable subscribers. So it made sense to keep it.
Actually, I think this is a scam to inflate the number of subscribers so that they can charge more for ads.
The good thing about it is this... I am able to do an INSTAND "side-by-side" comparison of the picture quality between Comcast cable and DirecTV.
Actually we didn't do a literal side-by-side comparison, we just switched between input-A and input-B on the same set, and compared the picture quality between the two signals on the same show. --- Then, just to make certain that the picture quality difference isn't related to the inputs, we reversed the connections and checked the picture quality again.
Both times, the DirecTV signal produced the BEST image.
And all that hype you hear from cable companies about how rain will cause problems with satellite reception. These claims are VERY overblown and exaggerated. Most ordinary rainstorms do not cause ANY interference. Only the heaviest of heavy rainstorms (the ones so heavy that you can't see your neighbor's house) will cause interference... and even then you're going to be worried about being washed away and NOT watching TV.
