I am writing in response to this letter:
http://bozemandailychronicle.com/articles/2005/02/13/opinions/evolution.txtPetra students are getting an objective education
Yes, Mr. Boessenecker ("Children should get objective education on evolution," Feb. 8), I believe you are just a naive college student. I also may be just a naive high school student, but I doubt it -- at least I examine my beliefs instead of parroting what I have been taught. At Petra Academy (where I attend) we aren't afraid to look at all sides of the issue. Jack Horner recently came and spoke to us about his beliefs -- and Petra is a Christian school! You must be shocked.
As for your engrained belief in evolution, I think you should take another look at this debated theory. Jerry Coyne, of the department of ecology and evolution at the University of Chicago said, "We conclude -- unexpectedly -- that there is little evidence for the neo-Darwinian view: its theoretical foundations and the experimental evidence supporting it are weak." Mr. Horner told us that that both evolution and creation are theories -- as part of science you can never prove one side, only disprove the other. Evolution is a belief system about the past based on today. Evolutionists' model of science is based on their beliefs (usually atheism), and if they can find nothing they say that it is missing. Perhaps they are asking the wrong questions because they have the wrong hypothesis.
Evolution is a religion, as you stated in your letter, so how can it by itself ever be objective?
Juniper Chapman
BelgradeSo far, I have the following:
----------
Ms. Chapman’s letter (Petra students are getting an objective education, 13 February 2005) concerning evolution is a clear example of the dishonesty coming from supporters of creationism.
First, Ms. Chapman comically accuses Mr. Boessenecker of simply parroting what he’s been taught without critically reviewing it, yet in the next paragraph parrots an out of context quotation by biologist Jerry Coyne taken from a creationist book. She then simply makes things up about evolutionary biologists (they’re mostly atheists according to Ms. Chapman) and Mr. Boessenecker’s letter (she claims he said evolution was a religion).
Unfortunately, the dishonesty she displays is not uncommon in creationist circles, and runs rampant among creationist “scholars.” Perhaps there is still hope for Ms. Chapman and her naïveté will be replaced with an education in the sciences. On the other hand, the “scholars” she so ironically parrots appear to have a low priority for honesty and scholarship, as even when their lies are exposed, they keep on repeating them.

Any and all suggestions are welcome!
