what's wrong with my PC? P1 power connecter is melting. |
|
the last couple days my PC has been acting crazy. it would randomly cut off after it had been on for an hour or two. i noticed that burning smell. at first i thought it was my power supply because the smell seems to come from there, but when i tried to take my power supply out i noticed that the P1 power connector was melted/stuck to the motherboard. there is some visible burnt blackness on one area of the connector.
any ideas as to what is going on?
thanks.

If it isn't, it will get hot.

2. there's been a short: my computer did the same thing, |
|
but less drastic. Wiggle the cable head: it should come off eventually. You'll have to delicately pick fused crud out of the motherboard connector with tweezers before getting the new power supply in. Take it to a good computer shop if it's too difficult or hard.

4. so are you saying the power supply got shorted? |
|
and that if i can manage to get the power connector detached from the mobo and replace the power supply everything will be fine?
thanks for your help! cheers

5. first my video card kept giving out: not enough power |
|
then the computer shut down randomly: turned out there wasn't enough voltage to the cooling fans, making an automatic shutdown. We found one of the plastic prong coverings of the supply cable had fused, leaving gunk on our nice new Abit motherboard )
