What's your physical anomaly?
One ear bigger than the other, disproportionately big feet, different colored eyes...?

I have a gap between my 2 front teeth. And, although I'm not sure how odd this is, the first 3 toes on both my feet are identical in length.

:)

yes, yes I do. Above and behind my right ear is a circular indentation that you could rest a softball in. It's not noticeable unless I cut my hair really short.

It was the result of my twins sister's foot or something resting against my noggin' while it was forming - or maybe just one sharp kick at the right time.

Anyway, it sure explains a lot, doesn't it?

47. Um, I'm extremely double-jointed.
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 11:28 PM by Bouncy Ball
In a college PE class, we had to lie on the floor on our stomachs, put out our arms, shoulder width apart, and hold onto a broom handle. It was a flexibility test. Then someone stood in front of us with a yard stick to see how high we could lift the broom handle.

My arms went all the way around and the broom handle ended up resting on my ass. I already knew I could do that and I thought everyone could, so when the girl measuring me gasped and asked the instructor "how do I measure this?" I figured out it must not be normal. The instructor looked at me and said "You don't. Her shoulders are double-jointed."

Also I can put my hand flat on a table and turn my arm until the complete inside of the arm is facing out. I can bend my thumbs straight back.

I can pop my hips.

Like someone else above, I have freakishly thin ankles, but I also have freakishly thin wrists. No matter WHAT I weigh. And chicken-skinny arms.

My hair is so thick it takes 45 min to blowdry with a blow drier on hot and high. Even with keeping it short. It's ridiculous.

I have long dark thick eyelashes. No I'm not griping. If I use mascara I look like a freaking clown. People think I already have it on anyway.

I have no appendix, no wisdom teeth, no tonsils, no adenoids, and hopefully soon, no uterus!

Both of my pinkies are "bent" or "crooked."

I have freakishly long skinny fingers. Seriously, they are just this side of weird looking.

On edit, geez, how could I forget this one? The one thing I've had more comments on than anything else. For some reason, and I don't know why, I have these really big defined calf muscles. I mean even the muscle that runs along the front of your shin? I can flex that, too. My calf muscles are just huge. I NEVER worked out to get them that way. A guy I used to work with was a bodybuilder and he used to BEG me to tell him how I got them that way. They aren't ugly or anything, just really well-defined. When I flex it, I've had people go "Oh my GOD!" I told him there seriously is no secret. I've never worked on my calves and rarely ever workout. Why can't I have those muscles in my arms, though??

53. I have the uber-thick hair, too.
People complement it, but they have no idea what a pain it is. I can never let it air dry, because it would still be wet when I went to bed that night. I have to use a hairdryer if I'm going to go anywhere, and I hate that. I use a very good conditioner, or my hair would look like straw. It looks fabulous if a professional styles it, but that's not a daily occurance. I'm envious of people who can wash and go.

I need my nose done. I broke it years ago and am just now getting time to fix it.

I also need to see a dermatologist about my face. It's not anywhere near bad, but a few zaps of the laser would help clear up these blemishes.

Also I need to have my jaw aligned because of a small overbite. Maybe a few laser bleaching treatments as well.

Hmm...How about Calf implants?!?! No more chicken legs!

And a few Mystic Tan's to get some color. :)

52. I have a spot on the back of my head
the size of a silver dollar and all the hair in that spot was jet black. It was really noticeable when I was a kid and had blond hair, but my hair has always been light, so it was always noticeable. It turned completely white before I was 20. My mom said she could see a purple birthmark there when I was a baby, before my hair got thicker. I used to wish that it had been on my forehead instead of the back, because I think it's cool when someone has a strip of hair in front that's a different color than the rest of their hair. Not too big though, or it's too Cruella Deville.

57. just a couple of little things...
if i lay on my stomach, i can rock my legs over my head and (it's kinda weird but...) and touch my um...touch my buttocks to my head...
my arms bend slightly backward when i straighten them.
i can stand on my tip tip tip toes (actually the tip of my toes, not the ball of my foot)
my thumbs make a 90 degree angle when i bend them back
if i do a stradle split, my hips let loose and it goes past being a horizontal line. i have a crazy arch in my foot when i point my toe, as in...my toe goes past my heel when i point...
and if i crouch down, i can keep my feet totally flat (with my knees up against my chest, i'm a little ball!)

i guess i'm a little double jointed...dunno... are any of these things anomalies?

my grandfather (at 84 and no regular exercise) could still bring his foot up near his face to tie his shoe...perhaps it's genetic?

72. Can you forgive me for asking, but how are your thinking patterns now?
I don't mean this in an insulting way, but from a neurological perspective. Cutting of the corpus callosum has been used as a procedure for severe epilepsy (which my brother has, but basically his cognitive functioning has long been irreparably low sadly, plus I'm a nursing student), but I've always sort of found neurology and brain function fascinating from both a developmental and physiological perspective. Anyway, knowing the corpus callosum integrates the thoughts and emotions from both neural hemispheres, it makes me curious as to what you have found to be the difference in your experiences and if you had an injury or illness. (And if you want to tell me to mind my own business, just let me know.)

78. Sure, I LOVE talking about my brain!
They discovered it on an MRI I had for headaches and I was absolutely THRILLED--now I had an excuse for every bad thing I ever did!

Actually, I've really had no effects whatsoever, I guess since it was in utero my brain just rewired itself around it and I've always had (what I consider) above-average intelligence. Logically, my left brain shouldn't be able to talk to my right brain, but I've never had a problem. When it was found I went searching through the abstracts on Medpub (which was a HUGE mistake) and scared the crap out of myself--it was tied to schizophrenia, epilepsy and retardation, none of which I have. They really know so little about how and why the brain develops. It's fascinating.

80. Cool!
It's amazing how when something is from before birth or a young age, the brain just finds alternate pathways because all those connections are being still formed, yet if someone is say, injured beyond childhood, it becomes more difficult for similar alternate pathways to form. I'm glad all is well for you. Thanks for indulging my curiosity a bit. :)

In it, a man had had surgery that had severed his connection between the lobes, and sometimes needed to pass information from one side of his brain to the other by speaking and hearing it.

I just love neuroscience case studies like Oliver Sacks did in "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for A Hat". I think it's so fascinating how the brain compensates.

68. The most fun anomaly I have...
is on my right wrist -- the blood vessel that you take a pulse on is "wired" a bit differently and goes over the top of my wrist instead of along the inside into the hand.

For years I've had lots of fun watching nurses/doctors grab my wrist for a pulse and then get that look of confusion and surprise when it appears I don't have one! :D

Also, I have incredibly squishy hands. Where the fingers attach to the hand is so flexible I can get my hand into the tiniest of spaces.

Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 11:56 AM by TahitiNut
Sadly enough, it wasn't properly diagnosed until I was nearly 50 despite life-long walking/running difficulties - especially in the military (USCGA and basic training). Skiing and ice-skating were next to impossible, but I did my best. It causes my entire leg (both) to operate in a "V"-orientation, each angled outward from hip to foot. The strain of forcing strict fore-and-aft operation ultimately results in pain. With age came chronic sciatica.

Blessing: I have always had an awesome breaststroke kick - like a frog's.

Dead center, top of the shaft. About the size of a hole a nail would make if it were driven through it. I thought of this while reading a portion of a book dealing with Holographic theories of the universe that postulated that birthmarks and other marks and such on your body might be artifacts of wounds suffered in previous existences. Made me wonder if maybe I was a victim of Nazi or American sponsored torturers in a past life. Well, at least I wasnt Stalin.

Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 01:18 PM by yellowcanine
The fifth one is buried in the back of my jaw and only can be seen on an xray. It does not bother me so I see no reason to have it removed - particularly when the dentist gave me a referral to an oral surgeon and showed me on the xray how close it was to a nerve and suggested that I point that out to the oral surgeon so he would "be careful." I said, "no thanks, I think that tooth is going to stay right where it is." That's all I need, to have a surgeon damage a nerve in my face so the bottom half of my face sags even more than it does already.

there is the main regular crown that meets up with the lower tooth, and then on the back of the tooth are these little extra protusions that have a second, tiny crown between them.

I have one on each side, upper teeth in the back, and the wierd part is that I also had them in my baby molars but when they came out, the molars which replaced them did not have them. But the second set of permanent molars ( the ones they call "12 year molars") did have them.

114. Grasshopper patella.
Basically, a genetic condition my kneecaps like doing their own thing. I bend my leg, and my kneecaps flick out to either side instead of bending in a straight line with the rest of my leg. No surgery will fix it, it's just the natural movement of my leg.

I have to be very careful about running, or jarring them by playing tennis or skiing or that type of thing. I just stick to walking. It's easier.

My orthopedist told me years ago that there is no such thing as "double jointed." But he did tell me I was very LOOSE jointed.

There's this thing I've been doing since I was little that freaks people out. I straighten my index finger so much that it stiffens, then I can pop it back and forth, side to side. People watch amazed, but none have ever been able to duplicate it.

Ortho doctor also told me I'm going to have a helluva time with bad joints when I get old because of my freakishly strange flexibility and movement strangeness. At 38, I already am!

Woo hoo.

117. Wow, where do I start?
I'll try to get it all, but I might forget something. Going from the top:

I had 4 baby teeth without any adult teeth behind them. When they decided to finally fall out at age 24, I got 4 bridges.

I have small earlobes, and the bridge of my nose is very small, which makes it hard to wear glasses. My nose is small for my size as well, although getting a little bigger as I age.

Super thick hair, one side is noticeably more wavy than the other side.

One breast is a full size larger than the other. Try finding a bra that fits. UGH!

I have small wrists, ankles, and waist compared to the rest of me.

I have a misshapen thumb, due to an accident when I was 3. My cousin dropped a brick on it, squished it and almost severed it.

I have had a raised mole on my upper lip since birth.

I was born without any fingernails or toenails. They grew in, but are very weak and thin and do not grow very long at all before breaking off.

Hmmm... I think that is all... if I remember any more, I'll add them.

Peace,
Bella
