Who just watched the West Wing?
I have to say that I loved it and I loved it for one reason. The whole time I could only think of one thing: Paul Wellstone

The whole one shot TV ad was exactly like the 1990 campaign when Wellstone ran the "I'm looking for Rudy Boschwitz" ad because he wouldn't debate him.

Santos' view about political ads in general is just like Wellstone's, he hated them and wanted to not use them (but was ultimately talked out of it). And that whole ad where he just got on TV and said what he felt, those were the kinds of ads that Wellstone eventually decided to run just him and a camera saying what he felt.

Anybody else see it or am I crazy?

1. I just watched it and I remember seeing
coverage of Wellstone's campaign here in Texas. He did an amazing job. I guess they patterned the campaign after his.

Imitation is a very sincere form of flattery!

2. I was too young when Wellstone first ran.
Sadly.

4. Me too, Read The Consciene of a Liberal
Tells you basically everything that you would want to know, also a GREAT book.

Also I've seen that ad on streaming somewhere, not quite sure, though.

3. Me...!
Though Santos seems like such an unconventional politician, what with the no attack ads policy, etc. I still really like him, though...plus, I can't find it in my heart to root against Josh. :)

I still pine for my old West Wing days, though. Those first few seasons were so wonderful...I wish I wasn't so resistant to change. Still, they're doing better than I expected with the transitioning.

6. Oh don't get me wrong, it's still not seasons 1-4 quality
I don't think that it's possible to write episodes as good as Two Cathedrals or 20 Hours in America, those were about as good as it gets. But for a post-sorkin episode, this was pretty good.

7. I agree.
This whole season has been pretty decent for being Sorkin-less. It's markedly better than S5, at least.

5. Here's my question
Did you guys see the "Stay tuned for scenes from next week's West Wing" thing? Who's gonna win the Toby/Josh smackdown? And can anyone believe they're actually going to fight??

My money's on Toby, just because he broods so much. Any takers?

9. That preview was hot
It looked very intense. Have they previously hinted at what the beef is between them? My viewing has been spotty this season.

10. I think Josh goes back to try to get Toby to go with him
Toby goes all nutso-butso with loyalty to Bartlett, and it's on. The frustration is getting to Toby.

8. I watched it....and for a moment I thought of the energy of
"The American President" with Michael Douglas, when Santos takes control....

11. It was good.
I wish politics would get back to that. But all the press wants to talk about is how much dirt and bull can they shovel at us.

Just once I wish the press would focus on policy and not did he sleep with so-n-so and is his wife, or kids social misfits. I know that is a pipe dream but it is time to get back to the issues. I do not care that Michael Jackson has the flu, and that he is on trial. I do not care that Martha Stewart is getting out of prison. I want to know what congress is doing about Social Security and are they going to focus on the lies that lead us to war and are getting our soldiers killed.

I have already started pushing the issues and talking to people about changes we need to make, and that a repuke president and congress is not getting it done.

Sorry to turn this into my rant but it just pisses me off.
