Sheridan came to B5 as the new captain at the start of the second season, ended up rebelling against the corrupt fascist Earth government, declared B5 independent, led the free worlds to victory in the war against the Shadows, helped Earth struggle free from her chains, became President of the Council (folks, help me out on the actual name in that last item), and basically fought the good fight.

40. A tragic hero / villain.

Raistlin Majere was a frail, nerdy kid who was always overshadowed by Caramon, his hulking jock of a twin brother. Naturally, this turned him against the world in general.

As his strong talent for magic grew, Raistlin began to find his place in the world, but he was always driven by a desire to be better than his brother and everyone else around him. He started meddling with Things Best Left Untouched, and cut deals with ancient evil powers (most of whom he double-crossed as soon as he was strong enough).

In the end, Raistlin became the most powerful wizard Krynn had ever known, and he tried to challenge the gods themselves. He would have won, if Caramon hadn't showed him how his victory would destroy the world. Raistlin abandoned his plan, and ended up sacrificing himself to save the world from the evil power he had freed in his quest.

For a reading list, I suggest the following six books, in order: Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragons of Winter Night, Dragons of Spring Dawning, Time of the Twins, War of the Twins, Test of the Twins.

There's actually quite a bit more to Raistlin's story after that (mainly thanks to new writers messing things up), but those are the basics.


Raistlin Majere is a resentful individual who has no patience for people who think they're better than he knows they are. He's not truly evil, just bitter and ambitious. He sympathizes with people who get pushed around, and is always ready to take up the cause of the downtrodden - or trod on them himself if they're in his way.
