1. We need to take the liberal word back. |
|
There's nothing to be ashamed of being a liberal.

Not a bad idea.. the neocons hijack language all the time.
Strictly from a language perspective, progressive is a much more positive word.

Liberal is a great word..they've already desecrated the hell out of it.
Progressive is something that can't be screwed with.
Progressive as opposed to regressive.

6. I'm using both -- and reclaiming "liberal" |
|
I was calling myself a "progressive" more frequently in recent years but I now realize that's allowing the RW to influence how I speak. As Dr. Dean said during his campaign, we shouldn't be ashamed to admit we're liberals, so I'm now using that word more frequently than "progressive" to describe my politics.

LIBERAL LIBERAL LIBERAL LIBERAL LIBERAL LIBERAL LIBERAL!!!
I'm as liberal as the day is long!
I'm a BIG FLAMING LIBERAL!
I'm a DEFCOM 10 on the Liberal-O-Meter.
And I'm PROUD OF IT.
There's a big sticker on the back of my car that reads:
LIBERAL AND PROUD
and I live in Texas.

8. cool! props if you're liberal and proud |
|
We're all on the same team.
I guess my only point is the neocons have mastered use of the language to their own ends, and we need to learn from that if possible.

"republican" like I'm saying "nasty little boogers."
I say it like I'm about to puke. I use it in a VERY accusatory way.

10. Liberal is a great word with good connotations as far as I am concerned |
|
but I am one of those feminisists who never noticed that feminism and feminist had become bad labels.
