Do they still sell hairnets?
Do women still wear them?
Not in the food prep industry.
Just to keep your locks in place.

Great aunt Lucia wore one, day and night.
In the morning it would be draped over the side of her head like some kind of tassel.
Just held on by one or two hairpins.
I didn't laugh, honest.
;-)

Do women still use hairpins?
Bobbypins?
One of my aunts used them to make spit curls.
Do you have spit curls?
Inquiring minds want to know.

2. Chignon. Granny called it a "knot".
Always wore her hair in a "knot".
Used 2 or 3 hairpins, no net.
It was waist length when down.

4. Hi. Welcome to DU.
:hi:
Almost all of the little old ladies of Aunt Lucia's generation wore hairnets. She was born in 1890.
I just wondered if anybody did now.
Don't see them anymore.

5. I CONFESS! In the words of LynneSin. I must use them because
my family got sick of eating dinners flavored with my hair...;) :hi: But, no, I have no spit curls. I do own many, many bobby pins. :hi:

6. Are you shedding?
;-)
But seriously folks...do you have very long hair?
My daughter does, and I notice more hair around her house, especially in the tub.
Miz t.'s is fairly short and we don't have hair-in-food problems.
Maybe it's just too short for me to notice it?
hmmm
More protein?

8. Very long. I am thinking of cutting it. I lose it by the ton because of
an immune deficiency that I have. I just cannot bring myself to part with it yet. Pardon the pun. I tried getting them to enjoy the extra protein...to no avail. :hi:

7. Hee hee, I have to admit...
I bought some hairnets a while back and tried using one while I slept to keep my hair from getting all tangled/sweaty/messed up during the night. The stupid thing wouldn't stay on my head and I ended up pulling it off sometime during the night. I guess maybe the hairpins are the trick, huh?

When I've had my hair done in an updo for a wedding or whatever, they've definitely used LOTS of bobby pins and hair pins.

Don't know anyone who does spit curls, though!

9. I know they still make showercaps, because I use 'em.
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 06:51 PM by Bouncy Ball
I bathe more often than I wash my hair (VERY VERY dry hair, color-treated, if I washed it every day, it would break off!). So on the days I don't, I wear a shower cap so as not to get my hair wet.

Used to be pretty normal, I always remember my mom having a shower cap.

Remember swimming caps (or bathing caps)? I had one, a red one, when I was a kid. And ear plugs, because I got swimmer's ear all the time.

And my granddad wore a hat everytime he went out. Not a baseball cap, a hat.

10. I use hairnets
Women who ride horses wear them - they make very good ones just for that particular use. When you show or hunt, you are expected to dress formally (formal as far as horseback riding goes) - that means long hair is secured in a net.

I don't have spitcurls but I've used many a bobby pin. I have far too much hair now for a mere bobby pin to do anything but get lost in it but I've used them in the past.

What fun and interesting questions!
