I overheard the following exchange today between two of my co-workers, who were discussing musicians and their instruments:

PAULETTE: I think the sexiest of all instruments is the saxophone.

JERRY: You mean, listening to it or watching some guy play it?

PAULETTE: Both.

JERRY: Ah! So you must be into John Coltrane.

PAULETTE: No. I don't know who that is.

JERRY: You don't?!

PAULETTE: No. But I always loved Kenny G!

So tell me, folks: Was I wrong for wanting to clobber Paulette? Keep in mind, I'm EXTREMELY passionate about music!

It's not the soprano saxophone's fault that Kenny G decided to wrap his lips around it. I like the sound of the instrument; it's got an interesting, almost double-reed quality to it, like a broader version of the oboe. Sometimes when I'm orchestrating, I want that quality and no other instrument will do.
