My Mother-in-Law Had Surgery for Cancer Yesterday
Apparently it spread from her ovaries, which weren't removed during a partial hysterectomy she had in her thirties. She had surgery about two years ago, but they couldn't get it all. She's been through two rounds of chemo in the meantime, but it started causing her problems again about a month ago.

She was on the surgical table for almost 16 hours yesterday, during which time they gave what seems a very aggressive treatment: 'hot chemo' or a 'belly wash,' in which a heated chemo solution is introduced directly into the open abdominal cavity for an hour or so. My wife was terribly distraught last night when she called; when she saw her mother in intensive care afterward, her face was horribly swollen.

My wife reports better news today, after her mother went back into surgery to have her colon reattached. Apparently her condition has been upgraded, although she remains in ICU. She said her mother looks much better, is talking & in better spirits. It'll be two weeks before she can eat again.

4. I'm sorry, that's so tough. Hang in there.
My father-in-law had prostate cancer when I married my husband. The whole experience really colored our early marriage. I wish you the best.
