Just watched AMISTAD again
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 11:31 PM by Shredr
I know it's flawed. I (heard a rumor) about Cinque going back to Africa and being a slave trader himself after the events of the film. But, damn, Anthony Hopkins as John Quincy Adams, giving his final speech to the Supreme Court as he evokes past presidents, gives me shivers every time I see it.

Edit: changed based on below information.

1. I love that movie....
Its definitely Speilberg's best.

I've never heard that about Cinque. Are you sure about that??

2. No, I'm not sure
But I've heard it several times. I've never actually looked into it myself.

Most recently, someone mentioned it on the IMDB message boards.

4. It sounds like bull....
I recently watched a documentary about the Amistad incident, and it
made no mention of anything like that.

It sounds like a Freetard Urban Myth to me.

I'm sure a documentary would have mentioned it if it was true. I loved that film.

3. The scene where they throw the "excess" slaves overboard
with weights tied to them was unbearable to watch.

5. Unbearable, and true....
The slave-traders used to deliberately over-load their ships, and regularly
got rid of "excess cargo".
