Just had to mention that this weekend is the annual Dance Marathon at Penn State.
So what? Another nice student fund raiser. What does it collect - a few thousand?
Well, no. During the past few years it has brought in over
$3.5 MILLION dollars each year for families of children with cancer, and for pediatric cancer research & treatment at the Hershey Medical Center. The money isn't just for "research" (which is fine) but it also goes to directly to families who are having financial problems due to the strain of caring for a child with leukemia or some other childhood cancer.
The event doesn't get a lot of national press coverage, because no one wants to schlep 3 1/2 hours from the nearest city in the middle of winter to cover it, but these kids deserve a huge hand for the hard work they put into raising $3.5 million in a single year - here's hoping they can top that this year.
