A 20-year-old Fort Wainwright man has been indicted on charges of first-degree indecent exposure in connection with an incident in the parking lot at Lathrop High School.
Charles J. Henry, is accused of exposing himself and masturbating in front of four teenagers on Jan. 31. He faces four felony counts of indecent exposure. He pleaded innocent to all of the charges at an arraignment Tuesday.
According to court documents, a female student was walking in the Lathrop parking lot with friends when a vehicle drove slowly up next to them and stopped. The driver began masturbating, documents state, and then sped away, only to drive around the parking lot and come back next to the teens, this time smiling at the girl as he repeated the act.
Henry was eventually stopped at the Fort Wainwright main gate, according to court documents.
During interviews with Fairbanks police, documents state that Henry told officers that he was under a lot of stress and that he would drive around looking for places to masturbate.
"Henry stated that he thought that he was not doing anything wrong and that he was doing his own thing," documents state. The man stated he believed if someone saw him in his car "it was their responsibility to look away."
According to documents, Henry told the officer that he had been in the Lathrop parking lot, had seen some young girls he thought were pretty and was fantasizing about them.
The charges against Henry are all class C felonies, punishable by up to five years in prison.
Henry also faces nine misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure for allegedly exposing himself to nine other people on the same day as the incident at Lathrop.
His trial is scheduled for late April.
