Root canalled tooth STILL hurts!
part 2 of the root canal (posts and crown fitting) was on Tuesday and it still hurts like hell. This is getting old.

Is this normal?

1. no, it's not normal; I had one hurt like that once and it had
gotten infected. Call the dentist if it doesn't calm down.

2. Yeah. Mine sometimes hurt for several days. If it goes on too
long, though, let your dentist know. I hope you've got some good pain-killers.

You have my sympathy as one of the crowned-heads of America.

:hi:

7. LOL!
I told my nephews I was going to be a queen. He said, in a VERY disgusted voice: Auntie Bill, it's not the same thing!"

Motrin takes about 80% of the pain away -- I just want to eat real food. I bit on a muffin on that side this morning and damn!

I decided not to go to Vegas this weekend because of it.

3. You probably need antibiotics.
Sometimes having aggressive work done on a tooth can stir up a lot of bacteria in the mouth. I had this happen with a root canal and had to get antibiotics.

4. I've had three roots canals and crowns
never had pain and never needed anything for pain. The only problem I had was being numb for a couple of hours as being numb bothered me.

5. Agreed, it's not normal
When I had my crowns put in, they were done in the morning, and I was eating Crunch-n-Munch in the afternoon. They shouldn't hurt beyond a couple of hours after the novacaine wears off.

I would definitely call the dentist.

6. call the dentist
sometimes they do not get all the root or infection - so you need to have it reamed out again.
sometimes the advice to "let it calm down" can get you into trouble. if it is an infection, the reason it calms down sometimes is that the infection moves to another site. this is the beginning of a long term problem.

8. My first one hurt for 3 weeks
As in, hurt enough that I was taking ibuprofen almost nonstop for 2 of those weeks, than as needed for another week. Never found out what was up with that, but it's better these days. But with so many other people having had experiences that indicated infection, I'd say you should get that checked out.

9. I was on antibiotics for a week before he did the root canal.
He said it was infected and wanted the infection to clear up first. When he took the old crown off he found a lot of decay. But, he said he got it all cleaned out.

It would happen on a holiday weekend!

10. If it seems to be getting worse, definitely give your dentist a call,

at home if necessary. If you are still in pain Tuesday, give him a call at the office.

Get well soon! :hi:

:spank: Typos are an unpleasant fact of life, like crowns. Fortunately they don't cost as much.
