What should I do in Boston this weekend
Going to visit my son an Northeastern with my wife and 15 year old daughter.
Right now we only have plans for the fine arts museum and Newbury street. My wife has no interest in the Freedom trail type of stuff.
Any suggestions?

Best chicken fingers ever. Pretty expansive selection of beers, too.

15. Damn. Can't really help ya, then.
Cause pretty much all I did in Boston was drink and walk the Freedom Trail! :P

Actually, if you haven't been, and it's something you all can handle, check out the JFK library and/or the Adams Historic Site in Quincy. That was pretty awesome for me.

18. Actually, it's on the Red Line T.
Wherever you're staying, just transfer at Government Center to the Red Line, and get off at Quincy Center.

The family indulges me in looking at them, but not when it's freezing.

16. A couple of thoughts ...

See the Mapparium at the Christian Science center (not the church building, but next door), right down the street from NU. It's a stained glass globe of the earth big enough to walk through.

Duck tours are a good way to see a lot of the city in a short time.

Stand in Copley Square (Boylston at Dartmouth) and enjoy the architecture around you. Trinity Church, Boston Public Library, New Old South Church, etc. One of my favorite spots in the city.

Lunch in Chinatown - go upstairs to the China Pearl on Tyler Street for a dim sum brunch. Waitresses wheel carts of dumplings, etc. around and stop at your table. Best if you're an adventurous eater. Go on Saturday, 'cause it's real crowded on Sunday when lots of Chinese who live in the suburbs go to Boston for brunch.

Eat at Durgin-Park restaurant in Quincy Market. One of the oldest restaurants in the country. Not fancy, but colorful (not cheap, either)

Eat at Jacob Wirth (Jakie's) in the theater district. Another golden oldie.

Too bad it's not warmer out.

Hope you have a great time and a good visit with your son.

On edit: Just noticed the diet prefs. Oh, well.

21. Make use of Boston's easy to navigate public transportation
system. Zip over to Cambridge on the Red Line. Do the Harvard museums. Go to the Harvard Coop for your Harvard souvenir and prowl around in the great big bookstore and record shop. There are probably more bookstores per capita in Cambridge than anywhere!

stroll by the Harvard Lampoon Castle

Head back over to Boston. For shopping fun, exit the subway at Downtown Crossings and head for Filene's basement..the entrance to the sub basement is right there in the subway station. Coming from Cambridge, if you are facing Boston when you are in the Subway car, exit the left side of the car @ Downtown Crossing and you will be at Filene's door.

Merchandise is marked down every 15 days, so the longer it's there, the cheaper it gets. Filene's gets stuff from all over for the automatic bargain basement.

Museum of Fine Arts is fab, Aquarium/Quincy Market/Fanuiel Hall is great, and don't forget the North End for about 10 blocks of Italian Restaurants.

Have a great time. Of course it is winter, but you can evenjump on the Blue line and head up to the North Shore and look at the Massachusetts Bay at Revere.
