We just had one open in a strip mall about a half mile from our house.

:wtf:

1. Hmm... keep an eye on the Obits section of your local newspaper
If it suddenly doubles or triples in size, you'll know you have a serious problem on your hands.

Or a Made-For-TV movie.

Take your pick. Me, I vote for the former, as it's more interesting and won't feature washed-up has-been pseudo TV stars.

2. No, but there are a suspicious number of "monument" businesses
in our area. Apparently it doesn't take any special talent to design and carve monuments. Jes' hang up a shingle.

3. Where I come from, caskets are sold by funeral homes
The same funeral homes who have licensed embalmers and licensed funeral home directors, and shit.

Are you saying this store does nothing but sell caskets?

5. Interesting.
I've already told my spouse to strip my bod of any useable parts (donate to any who need, that is), burn whatever's left, and scatter the ashes in our sacred redwood grove.

Won't be nothin' but an empty urn left when I'm gone. :)

They are supposed to be reasonably priced compared to the funeral homes.

20. We have one down the street.
My favorite though, comes from an online seller. (Underground humor has the best picture of it, but the casket actually comes from Funeral Depot)

22. Over-the-counter casket stores are a great idea, IMHO...
You can save big $$$ by avoiding the funeral home markup (sorry David, Nate and Rico...;))

You can also buy them on eBay:

23. No, not here...
But the Amish in Shipshiwanna will make a pine box for you and a group of Monks near Richmond will sell you a corrugated cardboard box.
I'm leaning towards the cardboard. Why give Batesville Casket 10 kilobucks just to have it burned?

25. Or buried, for that matter
A halfway decent woodworker could make a casket for three to four hundred dollars, and that includes the handles and lining.

27. But the Batesville has a "Lifetime Guarrantee"...
Whatever that's supposed to mean.

About the only part of the Bible I can agree with is the "Dust Ye wre, Dust shall Ye Be..." part.

I don't believe what my local Undertaker offers as "Embalming" would last all that long, anyway...

I'm trying REAL hard here not to make a joke involving Cremation and the Summer's Eve factory....
