Best Hot salsa?
I'm looking for the best hot salsa available, even if I have to order it online. I like a smooth, less chunky salsa. I usually buy Pace hot and put it in the blender with a jar of jalapenos and a half cup of cayenne, but I'm getting bored with it.

2. Skip Pace . . . Pace is too processed and tastes it.

There's a brand out called Frontera that makes a very good Habanero salsa and an even better Jalapeno and Cilantro salsa (which isn't hot enough for me, but tastes fantastic). Their Garlic Chipotle salsa is pretty damned good too.

Pace tastes like crap IMO, they taste exactly like they describe their competitors in their old commercials.

Try the Frontera stuff, you won't be disappointed.

edit: Also, Better than Fred's Habanero salso is hot enough to strip paint and loosen rusted bolts.

9. Sorry, I have to disagree.
I have tried various salsas and Pace is the best tasting (in my opinion).

10. Then you haven't tried real salsa :)

Pace is very low quality when compared against real salsas. Note: Ortega, Old El Paso, and other major brands you find on any and every supermarket shelf do not count as "real." All of them taste like they had a run though a chemical factory before they went in the jar.

3. There are some recipes here
http://demopedia.democraticunderground.com/index.php/DU_Recipes

===Pico de gallo chunky salsa=== ''bearfan454''

*5 jalapenos
*3 large tomatoes
*1 red onion
*2 garlic cloves
*1/4 bunch of cilantro
*salt to taste

Dice up the jalapenos. I usually stand them upright and just filet the sides to avoid the seeds. Leave the seeds if you want it hotter.
Dice the rest of the ingredients but dice the garlic very small. Only use the leaves from the cilantro. Mix everything together in a bowl and add salt to taste. As with any recipe you can add more or less of whatever ingredients you like better or worse. I've been making this for years and it is really easy. It's good on tacos, fajitas, chips, tostadas or anything else you like spicy.

===Sweet banana pepper sauce (Also called ensalada)=== ''bearfan454''

My Mom made this when we were kids and we all loved it. It is a perfect topping for tamales. It is so good we used to eat it on top of white bread alone. Here it is:

Ingredients

*3 sweet banana peppers
*2 hot banana peppers(or some other kind - but jalapenos are too hot)
*3 tomatoes
*1/2 medium sized red onion finely diced
*2 garlic cloves finely diced
*1/4 cup oil(any kind you like - peanut, safflower, corn, vegetable)
*1/2 tsp oregano
*1/4 tsp salt
*3 tsp brown vinegar
*1 tsp water

Boil the tomatoes briefly and remove the skins. Dice them up small. Put the peppers on top of the gas burner on the stove and toast them until the skins turns mostly black. Scrape off the skin under running water. Remove the seeds and dice small.

In a mixing bowl put the diced peppers, tomatoes, onions, and garlic. Add the oregano, salt, and oil. Mix the water and vinegar together and then add it too. Mix together with a spatula.

As with any recipe this is just a base. Some people like more salt, some like less, you might want more or less oil or vinegar, or whatever. This is how I like it.

===Salsa and Squash=== ''jap''

Salsa

*1 large (fresh) jalapeno chopped fine (use more and leave in the seeds if you want extra fire; remove the seeds for a milder salsa)
*½ cup green onions chopped
*1 or 2 cloves garlic chopped fine
*2 or 3 tomatillos diced
*1 mango* diced
*1/4 c. fresh cilantro chopped fine
*juice of 1 or 1 ½ fresh limes
*1 or 2 chopped fresh tomatoes (or use ½ c. Hunts petite-diced)
*few dashes of chili powder or cumin
*salt to taste

*(½ jar Pace Extra Thick & Chunky Salsa Medium--yellow top - optional)

Mix everything together and serve with tortilla chips. Tastes better if it sits overnight.

*Can use peaches instead of mango
*Add a cucumber, also.

This is just a basic recipe that can be modified to use what you have on hand.

SQUASH: Cut off ends, split lengthwise, brush with olive oil and herbs, salt & pepper, and grill. Mmmmmmh. Tasty as is or added to marinara sauce and served over spaghetti. Lordy, lordy, that's good.

===Homemade salsa=== ''bearfan454''

I like this better than the restaurant salsa. All you need is

I used Anaheim peppers but any kind will do. Hot banana peppers are my favorite for this. Use as many or as few as you like depending on how hot you want it. Use seeds and all. Just cut them up coarse, add the canned tomatoes, peeled garlic cloves, lemon juice, and salt to taste(none for me, the chips are salty enough) and put it all in the blender.

Pulse it instead of puree. I like it when the peppers are just about the size of a grain of rice.

Pour it in a bowl and you're good to go.

6. Hey Bears Fan
That top recipe sounds good. I think I'll try that, but maybe grind a little black pepper into it as well.

4. I like Green Mountain Salsa
otherwise, I make my own. I use fresh tomatoes when in season, and a can of Muir Glen fire-roasted tomatoes with chiles.
