Damn Cats: They're smarter than you think & know how to exact revenge!!!

Seriously!

I guess Abbott was getting revenge for all those times I wake him up so I can snuggle & pet him.

Around 2am this morning I wake up to this soft scratching on my forehead. I wake up to find Abbott "petting" my forehead with some claw action to boot (nothing painful). I figured maybe he was just hungry or thirsty but when I checked his dishes there was enough there for him.

Back to sleep and about 3 hours later - same thing! Damn cat wakes me up so he can pet me.

These cats are getting smarter and we're in trouble. Just wait until they evolve with an opposable thumb - they'll be ruling the world!

1. Boots gets even with me by jumping on me at 5:30 AM!

When I don't feed him, or when his water runs out, he jumps on me, meowing his kitty head off, until I get up and feed him and give him water.
When his litterbox has one clump and/or two turds, he jumps on me to get me out of bed. "You suppose ta cween my wittabox---now!"

2. I agree.

My 3-year-old ocicat is very intelligent, has a HUGE attitude, and once whacked a pet dove we had when she was a kitten (she can be the sweetest thing, though). But, sometimes cats communicate by giving you a light bite, as you probably well know.

We have 3. We have big, a intellectually-challenged fluffball (Persian) male who is the perfect pet. He has always allowed the kids to carry him around like a baby, while he purrs all the while. He is as easygoing as they come.

Then I have the 18-year-old, who is doing very well, but she sometimes forgets where the potty is (fortunately, it is an old rug, with padding underneath).

Then ... Ms. Attitude. Once, I could see it in her eyes - she thought about giving my daughter a little nip. I stuck my finger out, waived it at her, and told her we always treat the Baby with respect.

NOW, when I start to raise my voice to my daughter, suddenly she appears right before me. I get the first warning. Then I get the second. Finally, if I'm still griping at my daughter, I get the NIP (on my hand).

Any my kittycat holds her kitty-brother in absolute contempt.

3. My older male has developed his early morning yogurt yowl

No sleeping in for me. It gets even a fraction past the time I normally get up, he lets off this hair raising yowl that he's recently developed. I get up give him his yogurt and everything is hunky dory.

How did he figure out how to do this? For 12 or 13 years he has been this very polite cat. Suddenly he's turned into this pushy, "I want my yogurt NOW!" cat.

4. I get patted in the wee hours, and it isn't my husband.

I have always taught my cats to request petting by teaching them to pat me with a paw. (You'd be surprised how quick THAT little trick is for them to learn.) Anyhow, I'd say that about six nights out of seven I wake up with Chaucer (the cat) sitting there next to my pillow (not ON it, mind you--next to it!) patting me on the cheek with his paw.

He will NOT give up unless you pet him a couple of times. Just for fun one night, I "ignored" him to see how long he'd stick to an unrewarded behavior. I gave in after about five minutes.

The nights that he doesn't pat me, he waits for me to roll over on my back and then he'll climb on me and do mashed potatoes on my stomach while purring as loud as he can. He actually woke my husband up one night because he was purring so loud...

5. Chaucer sounds like my Thomas. He does the tap tap tap on

my face, head, arms, until I reach out and touch him, then he gets into real loud purr mode. man he has a great purr.

my others like to lie right next to me just within comfortable reach.

Of course Zill likes to kiss us. one of his nicknames is the Lickinator

6. My Dora will wake me up by

giving my face a bath. Rough kitty tongue, thoroughly cleaning my face. I push her off, she comes right back. I'm trying to at least get her to leave my eyes alone, that shit hurts!

Bear woke me once by sucking on my palm. He's about 15 pounds, and when I tried to get my hand away from him, his paws clamped down complete with claws. OK catdude, finish what you're doing, then I'll go wash my hand.
