just got a call from the DNC..but they asked for my husband, that
is so funny.

"May I speak to ____ ____?

"he isn't here, may I ask who's calling?

"a non profit organization ...

"WHICH non profit organization?

"Democratic Party, we have record of him as a donor..

"Oh that was me, I wrote the check, it's just a joint account, check and see if you have my name too...

so all this time I am in my bank by mail, fixing the check, setting it to pay etc.

he spent a lot of time trying to convince me to use a credit card, to which I said "I am trying to not use them, getting ready for Bush's economy"

he should have laughed but he kept on going with the request for a credit card.

I finally said, Look money is on its way, you should have it by March 20 or so.

should we send a pledge card?

No, that is just money you would have to spend that you don't need to spend, (chill outguy, I posted the payment )

just thought I would share

2. I fundraised for the DNC for 1 1/2 years and
it is far cheaper IF you do use your CC..that's why they push.

4. What's so bad about cold, hard cash?
No CC approval machines, no risk of bounced or NSF checks - just mail me the receipt and you're good to go. Wheeee!

7. Let me tell you a story
I started FR 2 weeks before 9-11. When the dems finally let us back on the phone we were only a few weeks from the November Congressional election and all our mail was going to OHio to get eradiated. We NEEDED the money now, not in 4 weeks. When you use a cc it saves money, dems have the money IMMEDIATELY to do what they need and they have less administrative cost processing your money/check...If you have no choice, obviously they will take it but a 5% saving on each donation adds up to a lot of money.

6. I knew that from public radio/tv drives, but I seriously am trying
to not put anything on those things that isn't absolutely necessary, like plane tickets ordered by internet. We got one of our cards down to zero, and the others are getting there. If I had not traveled so much this year another one would be at zero by now.

I am supposed to receive a small inheritance from an aunt who died recently and am thinking about wiping out at least one of the cards then. After I know how much it is of course. I could end up using the money to take my daughter out to eat.

3. Isn't It Amazing?
They don't even look at the signature. Same scenario for me. I finally ended the conversation by saying, "Not only did I write that check but I write all the checks in this house. You folks need to get on the ball with this cause you're going to tick off a lot of women." Amnesty International also did this once and I gave them the business for that, too.

8. Let me tell you how this happened
They REALLY are NOT discriminating against women. The FIRST family donation was made by your hubby and it didn't go in with Mr & Mrs on the donation card. We are very cautious to ONLY talk to whom is on the screen because there are way TOO MANY 2 party households and the rethug partner will NOT allow us to TT the dem partner. The only exception is very elderly people. When an eighty year old said no, we accepted it.

12. Actually, No
My point was I made the donations, all of them, the first and any that ensued.

5. Of all the things I taught my son...I never taught him how to answer...
the phone when non-profits and charities call.

Phone rang the other day. Call from Atlanta, according to the caller ID.

My son answered. Here's the end of the conversation I heard, and what I assumed the caller said.

Caller: May I speak to your father?

My son: Who?

Caller: May I speak to Mr. _________ ?

My son: You can't. My mom divorced him and I don't know where he is.

Caller: Uh---then can I speak to Mrs. ________________?

My son: Dude, didn't you hear me? MY MOM IS DIVORCED. SHE'S NOT MISSUS ANY MORE.

Caller: Then can I speak to your mom?

My son: Ok. Hold on.

LOL! Anyway, kiddo and I had a little talk about the kind of personal info he shouldn't divulge to strangers on the phone. :-)

9. Was this call from the dems or another non profit you support OR
was it a cold call?

10. I assume it was a "cold call." It was from a Kid's Miracle foundation
that provides final wishes likes trips to Disneyworld for kids with terminal diseases.

I've never received a call from this group--and then the next day, again from Atlanta, a group called to ask me to donate to some Policeman's Fraternity group.

I don't ever donate by phone, though. Told them to send me the literature and I'd consider a donation.

11. Good decision
I stand by my post on non profits you do support. By giving over the phone you do save them money. BUT if you have NEVER given, I would have done the same thing.
