4. I like Hank Williams
He was real and played from the heart. Just listen to "your cheating heart".

He played country before it sold out.

8. I like Hank Williams Jr. also
one of his best songs, called "the ride", is dedicated to his dad.

10. Me, too.
Saw him in concert in the eighties. I've been to concerts of bands of all genres. It was absolutely bar-none the best concert I've ever attended.

12. On one of my "Insane Music Programs" on my station...
I played a concert Hank Jr. played in the early 90's where he was to put it bluntly, smashed off his ass; 20 minutes of him screaming incoherently at his band and the audience before the band shut down and they dragged him off. It's was the funniest thing I've ever heard...

14. The Ride
I don't know if Hank Jr. ever did a cover of it or not, but "The Ride" was written and originally performed by David Allan Coe, whom I consider to be one of the real country greats for his songwriting.

Johnny Cash
The Night Hank Williams Came To Town

************

Harry Truman was our president
A coke and burger cost you thirty cents
I was still in love with Mavis Brown
On the night Hank Williams came to town

'I Love Lucy' debuted on TV
That was one big event we didn't see
'Cause no one stayed at home for miles around
It was the night Hank Williams came to town

Mama ironed my shirt and daddy let me take the truck
I drove on out to Grapevine and picked old Mavis up
We hit that county line for one quick round
On the night Hank Williams came to town

A thousand people sweltered in the gym
Then I heard someone whisper, 'Hey, that's him'
That's when the crowd let out this deafening sound
It was the night Hank Williams came to town

On and on he sang into the night
'Jambalaya', 'Cheatin' Heart', 'I Saw the Light'
How'd they get Miss Audrey in that gown
On the night Hank Williams came to town

Mavis had her picture made with Hank outside his car
She said, 'He sure is humble for a Grand Ole Opry Star'
Mavis said, 'Why don't we hang around
It ain't often that Hank Williams comes to town'

While Hank signed his autograph on Beaulah Rice's fan
Mavis got acquainted with the Driftin' Cowboys Band
The effect on all our lives was quite profound...
On the night Hank Williams came to town

Radio announcer's voice in the background:
Remember, friends and neighbors, Hank Williams and all the Drifting
Cowboys will be at the high school gym in person for one show only
this Saturday night. The big 2 hour show starts at 7:30...Tickets are
just a dollar-fifty each. You get your money's worth the first fifteen minutes
and the rest is free. That's Saturday night...Advance tickets are on sale
now at Renfrow's Drugstore, Do-Nut Heaven and here at the radio station.
Hank Williams...All the Drifting Cowboys, Don Helms, Jerry Rivers (Fade out)

13. Hank Williams SR is the Greatest
I wouldn't compare Hank Williams' son to Hank Williams Sr. himself!

And for the persons who asked, the pic is Hank Williams Sr. He was only 27 when he died, not a very pretty story, either, but he wrote some terrific songs!

I probably never would have become a fan, but my uncle used to sing his songs all the time with his guitar, and when I was in my pre-teens, I dug into my dad and uncle's old 78's and played all the Hank Williams songs all the time. (These days you might have a little trouble finding a record player that plays 78's!)

Ramblin' Man is probably my favorite song, as well as Lost Highway, and I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. Of course, it's hard to pick just one favorite . . .

16. My dad would sing his songs to us when we would take car rides
in fact my father lived life quite like Mr. Williams...until the love of a good woman (my mom) turned him around...sadly his drinking and smoking days caught up with him when I was a kid.;...

I have very fond memories of Hank Sr. I however dislike his son....
