7. I agree
I went to look at the site prepared to laugh but actually found myself feeling rather ashamed. This is how they choose to live (doesn't matter why) and it's really none of our business, is it, so long as they're not sating that we should dress like that? Nothing wrong with modesty, either, I can't be the only one sick to death of seeing plastic-looking people flashing as much of their bodies as they can from the pages of magazines and newspapers in order to sell their latest piece of crap record/film/badly-written book.

8. Anyway, if the US continues the way it's going,
you'll be required to dress like that soon. Why, Laura already does.

10. very well stated.
I too thought it was some kind of funny site ... funny pics etc. I grew up in a community where Mennonite people lived and worked. It was normal to see horses and buggy's in town and we did much of our produce and meat buying from the local farmers. They are hard working folks. They leave us alone, don't impose their values on us. I don't think we should lump them in with the 'fundies' that are so talked about here on DU.

:hi:
thanks for your comments.

4. Quilts are gorgeous!
Mennonite and Amish do have their own way of dressing. They're not asking us to wear them.

The quilts on the site are stunning, and very reasonably priced.

11. I believe it's Mennonite
Different sects have different rules. Where I lived there were many groups. Steel wheel buggies for some. Rubber wheels for others. For some no electricity, for others none. Some went to 'regular' schools others went to private mennonite schools. You get the idea.
Those who are in business often choose to have 'worldly' things. Machine shops used generators a lot instead of electricity.

my 2 cents.
