1. We discussed this on Friday. The consensus was, that there are many
fans of NASCAR here and we are going to try and be less stereotypical in the future. :hi:

3. Webster's dictionary online defines sarcasm as:
Main Entry: sar·casm
Pronunciation: 'sär-"ka-z&m
Function: noun
Etymology: French or Late Latin; French sarcasme, from Late Latin sarcasmos, from Greek sarkasmos, from sarkazein to tear flesh, bite the lips in rage, sneer, from sark-, sarx flesh; probably akin to Avestan thwar&s- to cut
1 : a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain <tired of continual sarcasms>
2 a : a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual b : the use or language of sarcasm <this is no time to indulge in sarcasm>
synonym see WIT

Secondly, how this defines being stereotypical, is beyond me.

4. Basically, I'm sick of NASCAR posts. I love it, as do others here. I find
most posts about NASCAR to be an attempt at tying it into Red State culture. Of course, this will be vehemently denied.

So here you go:

My favorite music is country
I adore Bobby Labonte
I used to live in a trailer

And I've always voted Democratic.

Sorry you don't like my post...but I didn't care much for yours either. :hi:

6. Yep. As Homer would say: BORING!!!!
It seems like they throw yellows constantly, and driving in circles (well, ovals) just is not compelling to watch.

I don't get it.

10. Hell No!
I'm not a fan, but....

Gas guzzlers on a race track: No problem!

Gas guzzlers on our highways: Huge problem!!

Let'em have their fun. Its a drop in the bucket!

11. See, that's the niche I see in this discussion...
I personally don't see much of a difference between 'gas guzzling' on the highway or on the racetrack.

I'll see if I can find some statistics on fuel consumption on ONE NASCAR vehicle over the average weekly race.

14. 22 gallon tank at 100 miles to the tank
approximately 4.5 miles to the gallon.

How many 'pitstops' does the average race contain for refuling? Multiplied by how many races over the scheduled season?

This is, in my mind, a giant waste of gasoline. Not, a bigoted stereotyped, cheap shot at "red-state culture".

Not mention tires, which are created from petro-chemicals.

17. Its pretty much been established that they are gas guzzlers...
My point was that, overall, that consumption is a drop in the bucket of overall petro usage. Sure its a compromise on what would be ideal, but there is also value in pushing the technological envelope (even if its auto racing), and value in just plain getting out and having fun.

F1 cars use gasoline also. Indy cars use Methanol. Top Fuel drag racers use Nitro-Methane.

32. Not that it's that..
... I actually get more out of it on television, because of the camera angles, all the live stats they conjure up, etc. (The tv coverage of a NASCAR race is truly a marvel of technology that blows football's or any other sport's coverage out of the water)

It's more of an aquired taste.. it's once you see a few races and begin to understand the complex dynamics of it that it gets addictive.

As a fan, I've heard the "how can you just watch cars go around in a circle" argument a million times... it's not until one sees how much there is to it that you start to like it.

I didn't like it much at first and now I rarely miss a race.

Heyo

24. The problem is that all sports are a waste of.......
Gas and emotional energy. But they are a great way to get your mind off the problems of the day. I personally find Nascar boring, but then most women feel the same about baseball. I find there is nothing better to relax than to get doing something after work and tune in the game. All sports must bore someone, but the idea of the hero worship for any of these guys is really kind of sad. As far as wasting gas, we all are guilty of it in one way or another, but it would be interesting to find out the MPG the Nascars attain. We all need our pass-times I guess.

... Well... I enjoy NASCAR now and then... it's competition, which many here seem to despise! TOUGH, I like it... and feel competition brings out goo din most involved... if not all!

NOT TO MENTION... NASCAR guys are 98.6% HOT!

and, oh yeah... the red/blue crap... ugh... give it a break - NASCAR peeps come from all backgrounds (although I suspect the gay-liberalish-gov employee slice is sorta too specific to be anything other than SMALL)

:bounce: so there, DAMMIT!

of NASCAR "In cockpit" or some such. 10 channels devoted to nothing but the race... I think I'm going to break out the book I've been saving for this week.

... since it creates literally hundreds of thousands of jobs, not to mention that it has legions of fans, and their whole SEASON uses less fuel than about 2 trans-atlantic commercial flights.

The Daytona 500 is about to start, too. Hot damn!

Go Ryan Newman, Go!!
