My dog likes to hump my cat
I don't know why. My dog is female and my cat is male. My dog, Coca, who is a Yorkshire Terrier just jumps on the cat, Meo, and starts humping him like there's no tomorrow. LOL

P.S. sorry if this violates the sex thread rule :silly:

2. I think that's a dominance thing.
I'm more of a cat person than a dog person, but I heard somewhere that even females assert dominance by mounting.

4. My dog thinks my cat's ear is a chew toy.
Needless to say, we have a lot of fur flying. It's very entertaining.

5. Animals Seem to be Getting Cross Cultural
Saw a story about the strange relationship between a hippo and a tortoise today, so maybe your pets are also getting into the cross cultural/cross species thing! What the hey if it means getting along! :-)

6. My female dog
Humps my male dog. And they were both fixed years ago.

Well, at least it's not Rick Santorum doing the humping.

7. Maybe it's a terrier thang...
Even though she was neutered, one of my female Scottish Terriers was quite... assertive in pursuing her relationships. She chased one poor male dog down the block, barking the canine equivalent of "Take me! I'm yours!" And she occassionally mounted our other female Scottie. So her tastes were quite eclectic. Never bothered the cats, though.

8. My fixed female dog mounts my leg from behind
She gets a running start and just lays into it. I think it's safe to say she's an 'it'. My other unfixed female dog doesn't hump the cat, but she does get on top of her in a dominant stance. It's cool by me, because my cat has always kept to herself (and me).. She would have nothing to do with dogs.. Now she's starting to realize that the dogs are her pals. They're playing together much more as of late. My new puppy is a big cat lover apparently.. She's going to be in for a big surprise when she meets a cat with claws.

9. I think it's a Yorkie thing
As in, "I may look like a small dog, but I'm really ten feet tall and I RUN the joint."

By the way, I have a client who has a large male cat and a small female Yorkshire. The cat washes the dog all the time. Cleanest dog in town.

10. Absolutely a dominance issue.
Gender (or species) doesn't enter into it. It's a dog's way of asserting that they are a high status individual.

Although people should be the alpha members of the pack, I don't recommend dry humping your dog as a method of asserting your dominance- the neighbors would talk.

If your dog tries to hump you the behaviour needs to be stopped. Dogs are happy when they know their status within the pack. Changes in the dominance structure bring problems, and a Rottweiler (for example) that wants to be the alpha dog can be dangerous.

YOU are the boss- keep it that way and everyone will be happy.

14. I had a dog like that too!
He was a Shi tsu and he wasn't "fixed". Well old Buster had a stuffed bear that he would go to town with. Gawd that thing was nasty, you couldn't even say the word "bear" in his presence without getting him excited. Once he escaped out of the house and we couldn't catch him, all I had to say was the word "bear" and he did a 180 right back inside!

It was strange, he would hump stuffed animals and other dogs/cats. Once he tried going after my uncle's sheepdog...when he almost got his head bitten off, he stopped! but he would never go after people's legs, go figure. I miss the old horn-dog!

I agree with you, watching a dog go to town on a stuffed animal is like watching a car accident, you want to look away, but you just can't!

13. Stella wants to hump all the dogs
If they're too tall, she'll hump their thigh, or their faces. She's just a little bundle of embarassing energy.
