Recommendations for my senior quote in the yearbook?
Come on DU, give me some good ones.

On one hand, I don't want to go for shock value, but on the other, I don't want a boring and predictable one like the rest of the lamers in my grade. I prefer it not to be political, but ah, it doesn't matter. I'll see what you all can come up with.

1. Mine was..
"he who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God."

Aeschylus

8. Didnt Bobby Kennedy use that
in his speech for MLK. That said I loved it.
My suggestion would be to think of your own quote, I make my own quotes :)

3. 2 of my all time favorites
"Ignorance is not the problem in the world. It's the things people 'know' that aren't so." - Will Rogers

"Take away the right to say 'fuck' and you take away the right to say 'fuck the government.'" - Lenny Bruce

Extra credit if you get the Bruce quote in there.

18. variation on your first one
I had a journalism professor who quoted his Negro (the PC/polite term at the time) maid to us neophyte journalists.
"It ain't what you DON'T know that gets you in trouble. It's what you DO know that ain't so."
The moral : Don't automatically accept conventional wisdom. Don't depend on hearsay. Don't pass along gossip. Check your "facts". Get it straight from the horse's mouth. Research, research, research.

It's a maxim that has saved me from a lot of problems and embarrassment for over 40 years.

"We seek a free flow of information...we are not afraid to entrust the american people with unpleasant facts, foreign idea's, alien philosiphies, and competative values...for a nation that is afraid to let it's people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of it's people."

6. This was mine
From Apollinaire, the French Surrealist poet, from his poem Alcools:

Voici ma vie renouvlee
Ses Flammes sont immenses
Il n'y a plus rein de commun entre moi
Et ceux qui craignent les brulures

Basically translated:

This is my reincarnation
It's flames are immense
There is no longer anything in common between me
And those who fear the flames

Or if that is too heavy, my other senior quote was from David Bowie:

"Ain't there one damn song that can make me break down and cry"

Similar message I think.

"If you can get rid of those ugly ol' skeletons in your closet, at least teach 'em to dance funny."--Rev. Billy C. Wirtz

"Don't sweat the petty stuff, but always pet the sweaty stuff."--Rev. Billy C. Wirtz

"A bird in the hand is fixin' to peck the hell out of you stupid."--Rev. Billy C. Wirtz

And to be serious for a moment:
"Never forget that a small numbers of dedicated people can change the world. In fact, it's the only thing that has."--Matin Sheen as Josiah Bartlet on The West Wing
