What's your favorite thing that's kind of tacky?
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 11:29 PM by liberal_veteran
Okay. Here's mine. When my mother died about 7 years ago, I found a small treasure amongst her meager stuff: an old lava lamp that I remember from the early 70's. I snatched it up and it has had a place on my mantle in the den ever since.

Who would have thought lava lamps would become cool again. I still think they are kinda cool, but wildly tacky, but at least my tackiness has sentimental value.

5. I have a picture of a mother loon with her babies
riding on her back, in the water. It's decopaged(sp?) onto a diagonally cut piece of pine, with the bark still on it. I love it, because it reminds me of the north woods. Shortly after we began dating, my now-husband saw it & said, "My grandmother loves those junky things". I still love it, anyway.:-)

11. Dollar store towels and wash cloths.
They are small and thin. Dry quickly on the rack. Do not take up much space on the shelf. Do not use much energy to wash and dry, as you can wash 20 towels in a load as opposed to 5 luxurious towels. All cotton, cool colors. We live in Florida and do not need big thick towels mildewing on the rack while it takes all day to dry. Drawback: they are made in China. Everything from the dollar stores are made in china. American companies will not carry thin towels in cool colors.

13. now THAT'S tacky.
Extra points if you leave it up year round.
;-)
But seriously folks...
I guess you're saving trees.
We got a green artificial 2 years ago. I don't like it that much, but it's a lot easier than the annual "Go cut down the Christmas tree" day. Just not as much fun since our baby is growed and gone.

19. My Christmas tree sings carols
It makes an appearance every year. It's very tacky, but it's always good for a silly laugh.

14. A ceramic Chicago Bulls head
I bought it for a buck many, many years ago and it's always on my wall. I hang stuff off his horns. Right now there's a DU bumper sticker on top of it which is the same colors as the bull (black and red). It's unbelievably tacky but I just love it.

15. "Crum's Bait & Tackle-Panacea, FL"
baseball cap. Litho of a redfish (maybe). Maroon, ventilated.

Panacea: A remedy for all diseases, evils, or difficulties; a cure-all.

Drove through a couple of years ago. Loved the name of the town and wanted a T shirt or something with the name on it.
Extra points for "Crum's".

16. Illuminated Christmas yard decor
Santa and sleigh, snowmen, nativity scenes, and especially those red candlesticks with the yellow flame. All that blow-molded plastic stuff with the light bulb inside. Reminds me of my childhood.
