Any Kerry fan need a star?
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 06:00 PM by Hans Delbrook
Tell me a good Kerry story from the campaign and it's yours.

I've decided to buy one for someone else instead of buying me something to clutter up life.

1. I don't need a star
But I thought Kerry's interaction with John Edwards' little Jack was sensational when they announced the running mate team. I also liked it when he went after Condi Rice for the administration's overall mishandling of the Iraq wars was great.

I'm not just whoring here because I want a star- I really admire the man and dislike the many bashers here on DU. I hope he runs in 08.

My story:

not me, but read about it somewhere else. A teenager (like me) donated 1000 of his own money to the Kerry campaign. At a campaign stop, Kerry found out about it and talked to the kid. Then he took off his tie and gave it to the kid. I thought it was a nice story.

Don't know if that's the sort of story you wanted, but I thought it was a good representation of the great guy Kerry is!

4. You got it.
I never assume anyone is "whoring" - I trust first and doubt later. Besides, I love your avatar.

6. You are awesome! Thank you so much!
I did some volunteering for the WI dems, but I never had any particularly memorable stories.

Thanks, I can relate to Bongo in so many ways.

5. What a great gesture!
I'm a Kerry fan, but I don't need a star. So I'll just thank you for your initiative, and tell a story anyway:

I got to see Kerry live twice, once with John Edwards, and once with Bruce Springsteen. As I am a bit of an agoraphobe, and not a concert-goer, this was probably my only opportunity to see the Boss in concert, so to speak. Thanks, John Kerry - for that, and for lots of other things!

7. I have 2 Kerry bumperstickers and I'm highly critical of John
but I liked it when John corrected Bush on the fact that it was Osama Bin Laden that attacked us on 9/11 not Saddam Hussain during the debates.

11. Just a John Kerry fan stopping by to say thank you for your
generosity and "John Kerry is a true hero and in my heart, he is the 44th President of the USofA". (the bastards stole another election!)

I have a star so I don't need to take advantage of your generosity and to me, you are a star! So glad you are a part of DU!

16. i did phone calls for our party this election......
....on my off weekends...not a lot to tell there...BUT.....

when bush made a campaign stop here in daytona in october, there were hundreds of hungry bush-bots eating at red lobster, where we were holding a birthday party for my girlfriend...i made sure to wear my "dump bush" t-shirt into the resturaunt, where i got a lot of ugly looks but no comments. it is good to be bald, 6'2, covered with tattoo's and husky.

hope that puts me in the running.....and a heartfelt thanks if it does...rpl

17. All right but this is the last one!
I can't pass up a chance to reward a fellow phone banker and I always had a weakness for tall, husky guys. (After all I married one :7 )

19. I have a star, but I also have a story.
I posted this a few days ago, but I'll post it again:

There were about 85,000 packed in the streets for the October rally in Madison, WI, and initially, I was stuck in line waiting to get into the rally. Well, I met up with these UW-Madison guys behind me who were going to try to sneak over to a friend's apartment.

Basically, we're one block over from the street where the stage and everything is, and the apartment house is on the street, about 100 feet to the left of the stage. So we start to cross, get stopped by a plainclothes Secret Service guy, turn back, then when the dude's not looking, run like hell to the house.

We made it to the top floor and watched the rally from the balcony. We heard Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl talk for a few minutes. We saw Dave Grohl and Springsteen play, which was awesome all by itself. After the rally was over, me and the other 20 or so people on the balcony started screaming for Kerry to look up and wave at us. As he made his way toward us, we kept screaming louder and louder and waving our placards. Finally, he looked up, made eye contact, gave us a huge grin, pointed at us, and waved. We went fucking nuts!

After that, when Kerry was getting ready to get on the bus, we raced out of the house, past the quarantine area where they had the Young Freepers penned in, and hugged the police barricade trying to get Kerry to come over. We kept yelling and yelling, and Jim Doyle, the Governor of Wisconsin walks by. I yell out, "Hey Governor Doyle!" He looks at me with a smile on his face, and then I yell, "Could you bring Kerry over here?" and he shoots me this death glare. That was hilarious. Kerry waved and called out to us, but his Secret Service detail wouldn't let him come over.

Anyway, that's my long-winded Kerry story. :D
