1. First time I heard of it
was on TV years ago...NYPD.

Bag lady wore tinfoil on her head so the aliens couldn't talk to her.

Sipowich scoffed at the time, but I noticed in his later gentler phase he has even seriously recommended it to some lost souls to help them feel safer, and be in control.

3. I still don't know what DU means by "tinfoil hat".
Posters here occasionally use the term but never define it.

4. It refers to conspiracy theories
A 'widely held' one is that the government attempts to control our thoughts by use of some radio-wave system. To block these one should wrap one's head in tin-foil to insulate from he waves and thus protect one's brain. Hence a tin-foil hat.

I would have mine on, but I've just washed my hair and it really ruins it putting a hat on wet-hair.

:tinfoilhat:

10. You oughtta see what it does to a belached blonde!
Tain't pretty; I've been making do with fiberglass lately. It's inferior, but it keeps the tint true!

All is vanity...

5. A couple years back, a guy in my class did a presentation
on Attila the Hun. He put tinfoil on his head. The presentation wasn't meant to be a comedy routine, but nobody in the class could stop laughing.

I haven't been able to think of anything else at the mention of "tinfoil hat" since. :P

6. the term came from not being able to spell aluminium
tin foil is rare, maybe it's a conspiracy about hats or tin.I wear an aluminium foil cow boy hat in Crawford when chimp and I are planning how to learn how to say nuclear or just form a sentence . we are morans.

9. People who (occasionally) refuse to accept the reality of something.
Like say, the death of a particular hard-living journalist who decides to call it a day rather than endure the twilight of his life.

11. People who disregard objective evidence in favor of specualtion
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 09:42 AM by Padraig18
A :tinfoilhat:theory is one which disregards available, proven, objective evidence, etc., in favor of unsupported specualtion. A perfect example of a classic :tinfoilhat: theory is that electromagnetic energy pulses caused Sen. Wellstone's plane to crash, when there is abundant objective evidence that it was a combination of weather and pilot error.
