Will taking the new Michael Moore book on a plane get me in trouble?

I'm flying from Philly to Portland, ME tonight, and I'm bringing the new Moore book to read. Think any red flags will go up? :)

I had some "flags" go up because I flew on the second day of the Iraq war with a "No Iraq War" button on my backpack and my luggage was searched through. The guy doing it was glaring at me the whole time too....

Put it in your carry on, and you'll have a lower chance of getting hassled.

(I was very anoyed that my luggage was searched, but as it was an orange alert and I didn't want to be barred from flying, I didn't put up a fuss. I guess I just look like a terrorist... Ya know long haired pacifist type....)

I had a few books (Weapons of Mass Deception, Is Our Children Learning, etc.) with me flying from Salt Lake City to Milwaukee a few weeks ago. I even set off the metal detector, and they did a full bag search when they found the books. They looked them over, handed them back to me, and told me to have a good flight.

8. I can't attest to the views of the screeners, but

many of the other Philadelphia airport employees are good Dems who resent the heavy-handed actions of repukes.

Back when the repugs had their convention here, the airport management forced all employees to wear pro-GOP buttons and banned any free-speech (read - pro-Dem) expressions.

For your situation, it depends on how much you want to risk. Personally, I would not give in.

from MN to FL and back with "What Liberal Media" held prominently, cover outwards, in one hand and my carry-on in the other. Even sent it through the screening machine and read it on the plane. No probs.

When We fly, We get searched probably half the time. No big thing.. It gets so annoying, maybe should not put deodorizer in my shoes.?
Anyway, just flew to Detroit.. I wore my T shirt, Bush's picture on it. Duct tape over his mouth.. ' Best use of Duct tape" Got glares, so what.

You may just strike up an interesting conversation with a stranger. I recently travelled with Al Franken's book and sat next to a woman reading David Gergen's "Essence of Leadership". She gave me a rather condescending look for my choice of reading material so I asked her about her book. After a few minutes of back and forth on the quality of authors SHE volunteered her opinion that any book written about DimSon's term would probably include crayons and paint by number illustrations!!!! Even though she won't be rushing out to purchase any of Al's work we parted, at least, with an agreement that Bu$h IS bad for this country!

Display that book proudly. I've been going outta my way to turn the covers of my reading material outward in such a way they're easy to read by other citizens. I think it's important for them to know it's ok to read "subversive" material.:crazy:

And before you set off on your trip, drop by your local ACLU and pick up one of their handy "bookmarks." It has the Bill of Rights printed on it.

My husband and I just got back from vacation in NC, and my husband's plane reading was Conason on the way down and Franken on the way back. No problem.

16. The week before

the attack on Iraq occurred, back in March, we (husband, self, and 2 teenage sons) flew to Detroit and a few days later to Toronto. We were wearing our No Iraq War buttons, with a supply of extras. A security guy quietly said, "I like your button" and we immediately gave him one.

During that trip we kept on handing out the No War buttons and it was a very positive and uplifting experience.

Carry the book proudly. Be seen reading it. Have the Molly Ivins book handy, as well as the recent Paul Krugman and Joe Conason books. Have a nice flight!

The vast majority of people out there do not think we should have gone to war, do not think the Bush tax cuts are going to produce prosperity, and in general agree with much of what we here on DU think. Don't believe what the mainstream media is saying about these things.
