6. It is, I think, prima facie obvious
why the British government would be unhappy.

"It is, moreover, their humble opinion, which they express with the greatest deference to the wisdom of the Parliament, that the Acts made there, imposing duties on the people of this province, with the sole and express purpose of raising a revenue, are infringements of their natural and constitutional rights; because, as they are not represented in the British Parliament, his Majesty's commons in Britain, by those Acts, grant their property without their consent."

7. From what I have found was that
The Colonist was tick more about the way they were getting taxed that about the taxes themselves due to what the original Charters for the colonies said.

8. The theme, I think,
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 02:49 PM by necso
is "no taxation without representation".

In practise, the Colonists' arguments evolved over time (the older argument was against "internal taxation") -- they didn't really want to be taxed (or regulated) at all.

The Townsend Act of 1767:

Duty avoidance and smuggling were both widespread in the Colonies.

You are doing your reading, aren't you?
