funny Dr. Thompson story

last winter I worked at the J Bar here in Aspen- on my first night bartending the guy I was working with pointed to a guy smoking at the center of the bar with one of EVERYTHING off the menu spread out in front of him- "that's the Doctor.."

A few minutes later it looked like he was reading a paper but the woman next to him was holding the paper up for him- I heard big snorting sounds behind the paper- he didn't even get up! He's real tight with the sheriff so I guess it doesn't matter.

He must have got the pure stuff because a minute later he starts breathing fast and just leaves the bar with his pint glass of Chivas- about two hours later we get a call from his assistant (who I think he married) with a credit card for the bar and food bill.

the town is saddened, and a worse place without him.

1. Really sad

The story does give some insight into the guy but it strikes me as so sad. He seemed to have trying to deaden his pain with food, cocaine, and alcohol. As we know today, none of it worked.

It was Hunter's daily routine and it was obviously embellished. I had a printout of it, but I've lost it. I couldn't do justice to it, alas.
