How do you feel about the new $20 bill (US)
Honestly, I'm a little sad to see the circle gone.

But it's nice to see that color is finally added (again) to our money and I think they did a nice job with it. I liked the redesign last time too, even though I know many didn't.

What does everyone think of this new move?

1. We have Monopoly money now?
Wow, and with such little fanfare... I mean, I had heard about this previously, but I thought they were going to make a bigger deal out of it....

3. do vending machines have to be retrofitted to take these?
I'm thinking slot machines, atms, stamp dispensers at the USPS, etc. Just wondering.

On another note, NOW I'm mad at my bank cuz I was just there this morning and they gave me a bunch of 50's and the few 20's they gave me were the classic variety. Now I find out I could have been among the first on my block to see this funny new money? Jeez! What a gyp.

9. Um...
Most of the people on American money were racists...

Washington, Jefferson, and Grant all owned slaves. Lincoln thought blacks were inferior and wanted them all shipped off to Liberia.

Franklin and Hamilton are the only persons depicted on American currency whose views on race are remotely enlightened.

20. Did not Jackson exile the Cherokees
He had the military escort them out of the Smokey Mountains on the infamous trail of tears? The Supreme Court ordered Jackson not to, but he defied the Supreme Court (as I recall).

22. Also
...there's Kennedy on the half-dollar. Or have they officially stopped making those? It's so rare to see one in circulation anyway, which is a shame because fifty-cent pieces are my favorite piece of currency. I always wondered why they didn't circulate more heavily; I figured with higher prices on vending machines and pay phones that half dollars would be very practical. Perhaps it's the "size" issue again...

6. I can't find one!
I just ran to two banks near the office and no new 20's! Aarrrgh. They seemed surprised that I was asking...and had bad customer service.

Glad I use the ATM/electronic banking so I don't have to deal with them much.

8. This morning on the Today show
Matt Lauer held one up and cracked a pretty good joke. He said, "Look it now has Arnold Szwartenegger's picture on it."

The camera crew busted out laughing.

We've had the same designs for almost a half century. I'm glad to see some new bills and new coins.

12. I think it's pretty.
Now if ALL US money had colours, I wouldn't have nearly so much trouble paying for things when I come to visit. (I like being able to tell how much $ I've got in my wallet -- if I've got $ in my wallet -- without taking all the money out and reading the corners!)

18. It could have been done better.
I would have liked the color to be part of a unified design, rather than just the background color of the Same Old Thing (TM).
