5. He's to her right rear, and they cut his photo out as they didn't
want to humiliate him any more. They are both working on "Dick and Jane" but he's having big problems with the second page.

6. I feel sorry for her
She was a registered Democrat when she married the nitwit. She's trapped. At this late stage in her life, and due to her spouse's idiotic policies, she needs the Secret Service by her side. And she was never on the ballot, yet she's forced to be the frontwoman for anti-gangbanging...she's gotta be miserable, no wonder she takes those quiet vacations with her galpals from college. She's like Bess Truman, who preferred to go home to her mother, liked to drink and play cards, and would just as soon do her own damn laundry.

And lately, she just might be having a few "Mrs. McGreevey" moments. Leave her be, and if she goes for the odd shot of hard liquor and a smoke, or whatever, to calm her nerves, good for her.

I think her husband is an asshole, and he is in the job, and deserves the scruitiny. She's just along for the ride.

I didn't like it when they went after Hillary, either. I just find it unfair and mean. There's plenty of fodder there just looking at the chimp, no need to stoop to their level and go after unelected family members, too.

11. I would agree with you except that she has done her part in the whole
evil business... she had a choice. She campaigns for the man... it's not as if she has no choice at all in the matter, she is not the saint you paint her to be.

14. WHO, pray tell, paints her as a SAINT???
Jesus...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is an ordinary person, who smokes, drinks, did pot in her youth, is as lazy as the rest of her crowd, who has no marketable skills (she hasn't done library science since the Dewey Decimal system). What should she do? Throw down, get pissed? Toss her fucked up kids into even MORE turmoil?

And she doesn't have a choice. She's married to the guy, richer, poorer, lotta sickness, health, death do you part. And I don't recall seeing her out endlessly on the campaign trail. In fact, her participation was relatively minimal, compared to say, Teresa, or Hillary, or Elizabeth Edwards, or Tipper Gore.

She has faults, she has failings. WE ALL DO. I just won't judge her, because she wasn't elected to any office, and I find the wife-bashing a little unseemly, meanspirited, childish, and not up to the standards that liberals, progressives and Democrats set for themselves. A little light humor is one thing, this sniping just seems way over the top.

She isn't even comparable to Dick Cheney's wife, who works at the Heritage Foundations, writing policy for implementation by our fearless leader--she works for the machine, Laura just goes shopping in Georgetown and vacations with her college pals. Poor Pickles is just a piece of flotsam bobbing around on the tsunami that is this administration. To focus on her is petty, and wastes energy that could be used to going after people who really are deserving of our ire.

15. You painted her as a victim of circumstance... I say she is a culprit
in the whole affair. Go ahead and waste as many words as you like on her, I wonder why it's worth the effort, since you think people spend too much time focusing on her.

She DOES have a choice!!! Are you telling me that you would stay with a spouse as horrid as Bush just because of appearances?? Are you saying that she couldn't have known what sort of man he was in the beginning? Are you saying that she couldn't have seen it when he was governor in TX and left him then? Are you saying that she couldn't find some excuse to be invisible instead of actively campaigning for him and criticizing the other side?

I judge her for the choices she has made as much as I judge anyone. You underestimate the reach of a first lady... why should she be unchallenged?

Good for you for comparing her to some wonderful liberal wives of candidates... the contrast is stunning. Whether she spent as much time or not, she had the choice to do the right thing or not, and her choice to support her nefarious husband is in my view the wrong one.

16. OK, fine, you are looking for a fight
but tell ya what---YOU WIN, happy??

Yes, it's just the thing that makes us Democrats feel proud of ourselves, to shit on an unelected woman who may, for religious, personal or cultural reasons, not feel free to stand up and tell off her husband. Yeah, that makes us a really cool group! Spotlights our maturity, too! Really helps advance the issues and causes of interest to us, as well!!

I'm not living her unelected life. I don't judge her. But hey, you are free to so do--go ahead, knock yourself out!

WHATEVER...........!

20. Couldn't agree with you more!
She could have left him much sooner, but 'she's standing by her man'! It takes a very strong person to act against her vows and family.
Obviously she's not.
It's hard for me to feel sympathy for her.

26. Could she just DO SOMETHING
I wouldn't have a thing in the world to criticize Laura over if she had actually DONE SOMETHING for the last 4 years. I've heard her speak enough to know she's smart and has a personality. To allow herself to be turned into a shell of a woman to appease some right wing notion of femininity is a betrayal to all women. And I believe she knows it. So she gets no sympathy from me. And I'm not buying her little Jackiesque makeover either. She either starts being herself or she deserves whatever criticism she gets.
