Anyone ever take Adderall?
I have mild ADD, not the worst case but frustrating nonetheless. I have heard great things about Adderall, even from a creative type (like myself) who said it really helped him focus during a musical project. Got any stories to share? Pros/cons of this drug?

1. I have used it recreationally.
Most of my friends think i need an ADDH diagnoses anyway. Its fun stuff. Its speed, but its speed that lets you get things accomplished. I am never more motivated to get things done then when I'm on addeall. Damn drugs...the one problem i find is adderall makes me want to smoke compulsively, though I haven't had any since i quite smoking over a month and a half ago, so I don't know how i fell the next time i have some.

3. Yes. It works great. But it will not motivate you.
It will give you the focus nessesary to get things done, but it's not a "magic motivation pill."

4. Never Took It...But I Used To Work For a Physician...
that began prescribing it when it became available. It's biggest benefit is that it has fewer side effects than Ritalin in almost every way. Our patients seemed to have fewer peaks and valleys on Adderall, because it has a longer lasting dose. On the down side the longer acting dose can cause sleep disruption, escpecially if you will be taking an afternoon or early evening dose.

5. Yes, I take it every day and it's been a positive experience for me
I wasn't diagnosed until my 40s, after living a very chaotic life, and have tried other drugs but Adderall works the best for me.

I take a low dose of the extended release - 10 to 20-mg - and it enables me to have a manageable, organized life. I work as an editor in a loud and busy newsroom and I can still focus on what I'm reading, which would be impossible w/out medication.

Of course, I wish I didn't have to take any medication, because I know it's all poison and the pharma industry is evil, but the fact is, my brain doesn't function normally. That's just a fact that I've had to accept.

It also helps with my depression because it gives me enough energy to stay busy and out of the dangerous neighborhood known as my mind.

Good luck to ya.

6. I totally relate....
I can barely keep my eyes on the page when I'm reading in a quiet room....I just get too distracted, especially if I'm drinking coffee. I love the idea of being able to stay focused enough to read.

Thanks for the advice.

Would love to hear more if anyone feels like sharing...

7. I have ADD and took Ritalin for ten years
I've been taking Adderal for about two months and it's much better. It not only lasts longer, I feel it is more effective than ritalin. And I think it has also caused me to drink less. My desire for alcohol, which can be pretty strong, is not as intense while on adderal.

8. I have ADD and my doctor had to take me off Adderall
I used to take Ritalin, but the therapeutic effects didn't last long enough. So my doctor had switched me to Adderall.
When I complained of nervousness and sleeplessness, that's when she stopped the Adderall and put me on Concerta, which works fine for me. The only side effect I have now is elevated blood pressure (probably from too high a dose).

10. My roommate takes it recreationally.
He buys it form some kids from a nearby high school.

I hate it when he's tweaking on that stuff.

13. If your ADD only mild, try Choline Cocktail
from Twin Labs (get it from any health-food store). I was a bit skeptical when I read about it, but it really does seem to be a kind of vitamins and amino acids and a little guarana for buzz type of "all-natural ritalin."

I find it a nice adjunct to Ritalin; you may be able to use it alone and save yourself some prescription bucks. YOu won't have to buy B-vitamin pills either, because the stuff is loaded with them.

16. If I didn't already run 20 miles a week....
that might be a good place to start. : )

I like the idea of countering it on a very natural level first though. Thanks for the advice.
