1. Yeah, the selfish, greedy bastards!
Letting us hardworking parents bear the burden of providing future generations, not to mention their future social security checks!

:P

2. yeah, What the hell, do they think they own public space
If they never want to see kids then they should stay in the house.

Kids are people too.

So there

3. Because single people make less of an impact in public places
I love children, but I don't love screaming ones in a four star restaurant on a Saturday evening.

There is a time and a place for everything.

12. I guess you've never been out to dinner
in a sports bar on a Saturday night with screaming singles in the bar??

15. Yes, I have. But I frequent more mellow establishments.
Just like I avoid smokey bars, I avoid sports bars with blaring TVs, unless it's a Sox or Pats playoff game. :-)

If two people are paying over $100 for a meal, is it too much to expect there isn't a child around showing of his/her projectile vomiting skills?

18. Well to be honest
I really doubt if a couple supporting a family is gonna take their kids to eat at a place with those kind of prices. But let's say they do. In an establishment like you mentioned I would imagine the owner would make a point of seeing that his patrons all had a good dining experience. If he or she did not - I think the fault is with the restaurant not the family who's kids maybe got sick or a bit loud.

I don't like loud rowdy kids in restaurants either - but not all kids act that way. And it isn't my place to tell anyone where they can or cannot eat. If you are unhappy where you are eating you have the right to make it known - and to leave if you are that unhappy.

And no I do not have any children. :)

5. yeah it does get a bit old
my kid is very well behaved. When he was small we didn't usually go to fancier restaurants, it just would not have worked. But I get tired of what sometimes seems to be an almost "anti-kid" bias - yes kids can be annoying, all parents should set limits for their kids etc., BUT everyone needs to remember that they were once kids as well. :)

7. Because NOBODY likes kids and parents. Even kids and parents
We can all agree that misbehaving, hyperactive children are annoying. And we can all agree that self-absorbed parents are annoying. Well, it turns out that all children are misbehaving, hyperactive brats, except for those of the poster, and all parents are self-absorbed, except, of course, for the poster. So everybody wins!

Just kidding. The real answer is that kids can't post on DU and parents are too busy talking on their cellphones and watching their kids puke in Mexican restaurants.

17. OK, find something to bash single people about.
Not quite as easy as bringing up legitimate complaints about people's kids in public restaurants, is it?

20. well there is the whole
"the world is made for couples and families" whine I hear some singles trot out. I have heard this whine from friends who have been in fairly stable relationships and chosen to get out. Then they whine about how everything is set up for couples/families. It gets annoying.

21. 'noisy kids' is one of those really stupid hot button issues
...that's guaranteed to get some people riled up and venting. You know, like slow drivers in the left lane. Or circumcision, or feeding formula to your babies. Some people gonna scream.

For what it's worth, as the father of three, my kids annoy ME much more than they will ever annoy any strangers out there.... ;)

23. I'm secure enough in my parenting abilities...
that I don't need to hype-react to these kinds of threads. My kids are pretty good in public (and I take them to age-appropriate places).

24. Because repugs give married people with kids all the tax breaks!
:D

Although that's true, that's not the real reason. The real reason is because of all the screaming brats out with their parents who aren't even paying attention to them or noticing what they're doing.
