The Concorde
I just read that it has made its last flight

My sister once loved a man who helped design it

She wanted to make that flight but present circumstances prohibited it

They still talk often He is in England , she is in Indianapolis

I hope he calls her today I am sure she must be feeling very sad

1. I saw it land in Boston yesterday.
I know its on its farewell tour with BA. Very Sad. There is simply nothing like that airplane.

I waited for an hour to be sure I wouldn't miss it. Unfortunately I missed its departure. Those engines really roar.

2. Yes, a beautiful sight
Edited on Thu Oct-09-03 02:55 PM by RebelOne
I used to live next door to Miami International Airport and would watch it take off every weekend. It's beautiful to see as it takes off almost straight up like a rocket. Also the engines would make my apartment walls shake.

3. With any luck
Gulfstream et al will do their thing on the Quiet Supersonic Transport stuff, and bring back supersonic flight.

...Although it'll never be quite the same.

6. I saw its very first flights from 1969
in the sky of Toulouse, France. Beautiful plane. But *really* noisy too.

8. I feel old
I saw it flying over Bristol, England in 1971. I was enjoying a noontime beer in the courtyard of a little pub that didn't even have electricity, and reflected that is was an 'old meets new' scene. It's reassuring to know that the pub is still there.

9. I think the 23 is it last flight
I was over at the BA web site today looking at their crazy Business class lay flat seats. the only little problem is every other person is facing to the rear of the plane.

13. Very Fast And Very Beautiful
As I recall, even flying as high as it did, the air at that altitude would heat up the plane where it would expand three to six inches in length.

It is a pity they wouldn't make it out of composites to reduce the mechanical nightmares.

15. Friction at Mach speeds creates a lot of heat.
The fuel was circulated beneath the skin to cool it, kind of like a radiator. If the circulating pumps failed they had to slow below mach 1.

14. I am a few miles from Kennedy Airport and it passed over
my neighborhood every morning. It did make a lot of noise but I will miss it anyway. It was beautiful and there is nothing else quite like it.
