April 23rd is far enough away to accommodate out of town guests like GOPisEvil. I hope more can make it!

We could have a less formal drinkfest in March if some of the local yokels are up for it!

One day some speed freak walked in with a gun, and started waving it around. The bartender (nice guy, hero of the neighborhood) tried to talk him out of it. The guy shot and killed him.

This was about a decade after I'd resolved I never wanted to be there ever again. I used to be in this remarkably stupid local band, and Bunratty's was the only venue that ever asked us back-- I think because the guitar player was a regular anyway, plus we had a bit of a following among the biker contingent. We played there every three weeks or so as long as I was in the band. It was a dingy place that reeked of used beer. Made People's Republik look like the (real) Taj Mahal.

I'm up for April 23. I'm up for a March date too.

52. That was sad-I was living right down the street from Bunratty's

the bartender's name was Abel Harris. He was only 24, and a really nice guy. I think it was in 1988.

94. I was at Bunratty's the night it happened; saw the whole thing.

That bar was my second home at the time. It was such a bizarre night: I was having a great time with my friend, ran into a lot of other friends there. The bouncers had thrown the man out earlier and he came back with a gun. Abel was trying to talk to him and calm him down and he shot him. When the guy started shooting his gun, none of us really realized what was going on, then people started yelling to get down and we all dropped to the floor. Man, I still remember that night well. And adding a little bizarre twist to the night: the band playing at the time was Bang.

Red Line subway to the station at either square, then walk down Mass Ave toward the other square. Easy! It's a little closer to Central than Harvard.
