Poll question: Should you be able to sue parents for bringing their kids to a restaurant?

The suit would be in the amount of the meal you were having, plus legal fees.

I think you should be able to throw mashed potatoes at the parents. The waitstaff should give parents only spoons (no knives or forks) so they can't retaliate and hurt us if we hurl potatoes at them.

3. I don't think your remedies are allowable...

But you may recover medical bills if anyone in your family gets sick as a result plus costs of suit but not legal fees. I doubt the cost of your meal would be recoverable. Possible emotional distress damages, and sue for punitive damages (they're not allowable now, but if you appeal you may set a new precedent - I think the parents who take such sick kids to public places deserve to be hit with punitive damage awards).

It makes me sick just thinking of these whack-jobs who take their sick children to restaurants.

4. Oh, this isn't just sick kids, this is all kids.

It would be if you were at a restaurant, and the kid did something to even distract your attention from a conversation or something because they were throwing a tantrum, or if you were grossed out by them playing with their food or having food all over their bib.

6. I have to admit that I sometimes look for 'family unfriendly' places.

Some kids are well behaved angels. Most kids are some where in the middle. Some people's kids are just a friggin' nightmare. There is no way you eat in peace when they are there. I have no interest in litigation, just my right to quiet enjoyment.
