hires a variety of personalities to fulfill our needs. They can't please everyone, they do best they can. We are party of diversity and that is what they are trying to please, plus they are trying bring some of the ring wing moderates over.

At times I get frustrated with Air America, the one thing I keep telling myself when listening to Air America, we can laugh, joke, enjoy life, speak serious topics and don't shove our thoughts up somebody's you know what. To me Air America is the greatest.
I'm thrilled to wake up to the humor of Morning Sedition and end the day with the likes of Mike Malloy.

Geez, if I had to listen to the doom and gloom of right radio, I might be dead today, they add nothing to uplift my day.

This pretty much sums up what I think, too.

It's important to realize how "talk radio" works. They have topics. They move right along. They don't put up with off-topic calls or rambling callers. It's radio and they have a job to do.

Air America has a problem with freepers... the hosts don't recognize a call from a GOP shill to save their collective lives, and I'm f*cking tired of it. Randi, especially, ought to know, and she doesn't seem to have a clue... and no she *doesn't* win those particular battles.

Given the caller rules that are pretty much mandatory today, I can't understand why *anybody* calls a talk radio show.

on Monday I believe. There will be guest hosts for several weeks. If you don't like guest hosts because Randi needs to recover, don't listen for a time. Some hosts like to pick a topic for the day & stick to it. They don't want to have to get whiplash trying to keep up with a zillion topics in an hour or 2 or three. And I can tell you from experience that doing a 3 or more hour radio show, even with not dealing with callers is very hard work. NOT * whine of hard work but actual hard work.

BTW, several of the guest hosts are doing double or more duty to fill in . Thom did his own show this morning & is now doing Randi's show to help a sick colleague. Another AAR host lost a family member recently. They are all trying to help to make up for people who have to deal with real life issues that need tending to.

It was during Mike Malloy's show, just before Christmas. The screener I talked to was very nice, I was only on hold for about 20 minutes before Malloy put me on the air, and we had really cool conversation.

Arch, I'm sorry your experience with Air America wasn't as positive as mine was. But don't you think giving up on the network is jumping the gun? :pals:

Sometimes I think that mediocre guest hosts are selected so they won't show up the regular host. In any case, just wait until Randi comes back in a month or so. No big deal.

and don't get upset about it.

It takes a lot of dialing to get to speak live on a talk show. Ask anyone who tries on a regular basis.

There is a reason for the intense focus on one topic or several during the time frame of a show. There is only time for one or two "threads" ( versus the bijillions on DU.) Also, listeners tune in and out during the course of a show, and if you, as a host, want to focus on a message for your broadcast, you will reach the most listeners by staying on that message.

Don't get your feeelings hurt by it. You probably have something awesome to share. Keep trying.

For those of you who want to defend Air America, that's great. I will too.

I will not blindly defend rudeness, especially towards those of OUR OWN, nor should any of you. Let us talk about eating our own.

Sometimes Randi is the worst at eating our own. She doesn't treat people equally at least from what I have observed. I have listened to the obvious disparity in her responses to men, which is much more respectful, than to women, where she is much more rude, antagonistic and condescending. Randi's a little like Dr. Laura in that respect.

Randi's okay as far as a radio host, her staff is okay. However, simply because she calls herself a liberal doesnt mean she is poised or has class or calibre, which if you listen to her and hear how she treats people, she can be exceptionally rude and even dumb at times.

As a former talk host, I can't believe how whiney people are when they feel snubbed. These are freakin' NATIONAL talk shows, people!

but I did call in to ManCow once. I told the screener some bogus piece of fiction. They gladly put me on the air-45 minutes later. Then I stated my real purpose-to just ManCow's ass for being such a prick and having his head shoved up Faux News's ass. They cut me off.
It let off some steam that day.
