I changed my major from Special Ed to Elementary Ed after a student teaching experience with some profoundly impaired children. I found myself heading back to the dorm after school, and just sitting on my bed with my head in my hands. It takes a special kind of individual.

14. I am
a pro-bono stripper who performs at hospices across the country. I specialize in giving lap dances to the terminally ill. I don't care if it's a woman or a man. I do whatever I can to make a patient's last days on this earth pleasurable. I am currently organizing a Lapdance-a-thon to raise funds for Children with Learning Disorders and/or Bad Acne here in the Pacific Northwest. CwLDa/oBA is an organization I founded three years ago in response to the staggering number of children with learning disorders and/or bad acne I encountered stripping at local hospices.

I guess I just care a lot about people.

48. Nope, but the prior editor-in-chief of AWST is a good friend, David North.
The new guy at AW&ST, Tony Velocci, is an old editorial enemy of mine.

Dave North and I were once at a dog-and-pony show for a new British Aerospace airplane, the Jetstream 41, in Prestwick Scotland. It was fun. There was a lot of grappa one night with the primary test pilots. I stayed sober and gleaned another 500 words or so on a tail-flutter problem. So did Dave. As a weekly, he beat me to the punch.

Anyway, Dave flew fighters from a carrier in the South China Sea in the early days of Vietnam. Marty Shagrue, the court-appointed trustee during the Eastern Airlines bankruptcy, was a squadron-mate of David North in Vietnam. He is dead now. He fucked many, many people.

The relationship goes deeper, but not for DU. David North is still a good friend.

27. Quality Assurance-Food industry
I do all sorts of laboratory tests on our company's products as well as physical and taste testing of it. I also supervise and review the processing of our product to make sure that it is compatible with our qulaity standards, HACCP plan, and government regulations. I analyze results, keep all the pertainent records, and am responsible for everything in my lab. I really would like to make a change as this job is a high stress, no glory job and is no longer interesting to me. I have had this job for almost 4 years and have worked in the industry for almost 5. I have a BA in biology. If anyone has some suggestions as to what else I could do for at least of $25,000/year and good insurance, let me know please.

34. Are you near a university?
When I was at loose ends between getting a terminal master's degree in chemistry and preparing to go to vet school, I worked in research labs at several different medical schools. I learned a lot of new skills, and the work was interesting. This was way back in the early 80s and things may have changed since then, but the pay was good (around 22K/yr back then) and I had health insurance, plenty of vacation time, and a pension plan. You could check out medical, dental, and veterinary schools if there are any in your area.

To answer the original question, I am a veterinarian (for 16 years), with a small animal practice that I have owned with my husband (also a veterinarian) for the last 5 years.
