For the second time, I've used the "ignore" feature.
I don't feel good about it, but damn it, if all someone ever wants to do is start a flame war, what's the point in trying to engage them in honest discourse?

4. I've never done it

I definitely see where you're coming from, but I always feel like I might miss out on something if I put someone on "ignore." Exactly what, I'm not sure, but the feeling is just there!

Also, when I have disliked what someone was saying and wanted to put them on ignore, I realized it was usually just where they were coming from in general and not anything they were saying directly to me... so I figured might as well keep reading their posts. Sometimes people who have completely different views from you on something and are coming from completely different places can end up opening your eyes about something you missed out on before. It's rare, but it does happen.

(Edited to clarify the grammatical gymnastics in the second paragraph!)

5. Disagreement..
I don't care if they disagree, it's people looking for a flamefest and who provoke any and every person who posts something contrary to their opinion.

It seems like today has been a particularly scary day for flamewars in the Lounge!

10. I sometimes have to take people off the ignore list because...
...I'm just too damn curious what they're saying. Especially if it's in a post I started.

14. I do that too.
I've had several different posters on ignore at one time or another, and I have always gone back and removed them from the list eventually.

9. At one time, I had about 15 people on ignore.
At present, however, my Ignore list has no one on it. Here's hoping I can keep it that way!

11. I used to have a crazy habbit
of putting people on ignore, but then soon after I'd end up removing everyone because I'd see a post on some thread that said "ignore" and I was too damn curious what they had to say. This was before the election.

I haven't used the ignore feature in weeks and don't plan on it.

12. I have never used it... and only one time,
in three years have had someone publically tell me that they were putting me on ignore (gave me a bit of a chuckle, truth be told.)

Thus, a post/thread proclaiming putting "someone" on ignore... strikes me as a bit ironic... dislike putting someone on ignore - but am posting a thread about doing so, presumably during or just after a flamewar in which other readers of that thread would be aware of just who was the "offender".

Sort of (no offense) reads as if one is provoking the person with whom one was engaged in a flame war - while putting that person on ignore - so that they know a) there is a thread about them, and b) that if they respond it will be to the general audience and not the person posting since the person posting has proclaimed that the person is on ignroe.... That is, it is like inviting a secondary one siding flame event. Just my 2 cents.

13. Fuck yeah I had 82 people on ignore once!
I used to lament having to take half of them off to try to find out who responded to a post here and there, and then someone taught me the trick of logging off of DU so you can go and see who it was! Yeah!
