eat a raw plantain. :wtf: Do they make alum out of those son-of-a-bitches? What do you do with a plantain if you can't eat it???

1. those things are waaay overrated

you have to wait till they're friggin black, then cook em for like 3 hours just so they taste remotely like a banana :wtf:

2. Plantains are great!

Just slice them into thin, quarter-sized pieces, fry them in a light oil, drain and sprinkle them with cayenne pepper or sea salt. Yum!

3. You're supposed to cook it first.

It's great if you do, especially if it's really ripe and you fry it.

It never occurred to me to eat one raw. I don't think it ever will.

4. "Don't eat the plantains"

That's a long running joke with a my Dad and one of his old buddies. His friend flies cargo runs out of South America, and has hauled quite a few plantains. He said they eventually took all the "facilities" so they could pack the plane full of plantains. So, when they needed to relieve themselves during flight, the only place to go was "in the plantains" as he put it.

6. Our local Price Chopper mixed them up with the bananas......

on my weekly shopping trip for my uncle (RIP) he would always tell me to buy green bananas...well I did. He had them in a paper bag for over a week and finally conceded to me that he couldn't eat them. They tasted funny and never ripened....it then dawned on me what I bought.
